This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Take responsibility for significant components of the Berlitz learner app, from onboarding to booking tutor sessions.
• Create comprehensive learner journeys across iOS and Android platforms, covering onboarding, placement, daily learning, AI practice, tutor booking, progress tracking, and transitioning from free to paid subscriptions.
• Enhance learner habit formation, retention, engagement, and perceived progress.
• Develop AI-driven speaking and writing experiences, including conversational interfaces, feedback on pronunciation and writing, and transitions from AI to human tutors.
• Utilize AI design tools and agentic workflows to quickly explore, prototype, and deliver designs.
• Rigorously test PRDs, identify edge cases, and refine issues in collaboration with Product Management.
• Assess AI outputs for quality, accessibility, localization, and brand alignment; update the design system in response to recurring problems.
• Conduct interviews with learners and usability tests, as well as analyze analytics and run experiments.
• Manage conversion and retention strategies, including trials, paywalls, upgrade prompts, and reminders.
• Design experiences tailored for corporate learners, employer-sponsored access, entitlements, and progress visible to employers.
• Build and refine Berlitz's shared design system, focusing on mobile patterns, motion, and micro-interactions.
• Design for diverse markets and languages, accommodating text expansion, right-to-left scripts, and accessibility needs.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure rapid shipping and fine-tuning of details post-launch.
• Report to the Staff Product Designer while partnering with Product Management, Engineering, AI, and learning experience teams.
• Several years of experience in designing and deploying consumer mobile applications used on a daily basis.
• A portfolio showcasing expertise in native iOS and Android design.
• Proven record of design contributions that positively impacted retention, engagement, or conversion, with a clear measurement strategy.
• Strong skills in interaction and visual design, including motion, feedback, and pacing.
• Practical experience in conducting interviews and usability testing.
• Familiarity with using A/B testing, analytics, research, and experimentation to inform decisions.
• Understanding of B2B products where the payer and user may not be the same.
• Daily proficiency with AI design tools and agentic workflows, such as Claude Design, Figma Make, Paper, or Claude Code.
• Ability to assess, reject, or refine AI-generated outputs.
• Experience working with and enhancing a design system.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to constructively challenge PMs, engineers, and senior stakeholders with actionable insights.
• Proficient in English.
• Must be based in Germany, Switzerland, or Hungary.
• Nice to have: background in learning, language, content, or daily habit products.
• Nice to have: experience with freemium and subscription models, including app store payment processes.
• Nice to have: experience with design for Latin American or South Asian markets.
• Nice to have: experience in taking AI design outputs through coding and pull requests, including testing with iOS and Android simulators.
