This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide guidance to product and engineering teams on privacy-centric products and services, data management and usage, EdTech, Advertising, and data governance.
• Support the public community platform, Ads, and the Stack Overflow for Teams business units.
• Advise on regulatory inquiries, individual complaints, GDPR data subject access requests, and data retention policies.
• Offer subject matter expertise on international privacy laws and regulations.
• Assist the product lawyer in assessing privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions, and related directives.
• Cultivate and maintain knowledge of data usage and protection laws, advising on their implications for the business.
• Draft, review, structure, and negotiate data protection clauses in commercial agreements, including master service agreements and Data Processing Agreements (DPAs).
• Collaborate with and assist InfoSec in obtaining and sustaining security certifications.
• Provide advice to Product and Engineering teams regarding privacy issues across various products.
• Manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Report directly to the Chief Legal Officer.
• A Bachelor’s Degree is mandatory.
• A Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited law school is required.
• Must hold membership in good standing with at least one U.S. State Bar.
• A minimum of 6 years of legal practice experience is required; in-house legal experience is preferred.
• Ability to engage with and gain the respect and confidence of senior business leaders.
• Business-oriented problem-solving skills and the capability to collaborate across departments.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
• Proven experience advising clients on privacy issues, Ads, and global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, GLBA, and other international data protection frameworks.
• Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating data protection clauses in commercial contracts.
• Sound and practical legal and business judgment concerning privacy and data protection matters.
• Ability to translate legal advice into actionable policies, processes, and programs.
• Willingness to travel to various locations and participate in conferences or training sessions.
