Senior Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Act as the lead technical authority for architecture, system design, performance, reliability, and integration within the GPNTS navigation system.

• Utilize advanced C/C++ skills for embedded, multi-processor, real-time systems.

• Formulate principles, concepts, algorithms, and architectural frameworks for critical navigation, timing, and sensor fusion tasks.

• Tackle highly complex technical challenges with innovative methodologies.

• Identify and pursue long-term technical goals with minimal supervision.

• Oversee system-level integration that includes embedded platforms, real-time data streams, navigation sensors, and shipboard networking environments.

• Perform performance assessments, advanced debugging, fault detection, and root-cause analysis on distributed components.

• Create and review design documents, interface specifications, architectural models, and engineering review materials.

• Offer engineering leadership, mentorship, and technical advice to engineers.

• Serve as the representative for advanced technical initiatives, system upgrades, and intricate R&D projects.

• Counsel program leadership and clients on architecture, feasibility assessments, trade studies, modernization strategies, and system applications.

• Suggest enhancements to engineering methodologies, tools, and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Comprehensive experience in C/C++ development for embedded, multi-processor, or real-time systems.

• Proficiency in software architecture, distributed systems, deterministic processing, and advanced debugging techniques.

• Experience with Linux development, systems programming, and tools or build systems based on Linux.

• Proven track record in leading technical teams, influencing architectural decisions, and steering complex engineering projects.

• Generally requires a STEM degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with at least 7 years of experience.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Active DoD Secret clearance is required starting from day 1.

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related STEM discipline is preferred.

• Experience in embedded, real-time, networking, or distributed system architectures.

• Familiarity with GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD platforms.

• Expertise in secure coding, cybersecurity integration, or DevSecOps.

• Experience in developing automated testing infrastructures or simulation environments.

• Experience in integrating navigation sensors, timing signals, distributed messaging frameworks, or critical data fusion operations.

• Knowledge of technical roadmaps, architectural refactoring, modernization, or long-term sustainment strategies.

• Preferred experience in customer-facing technical leadership roles with government stakeholders or program representatives.
