This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Perform comprehensive thermal analysis on solid rocket motor components.
• Work in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
• Engage with customers to ensure technical excellence.
• Utilize engineering methodologies to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test mechanically functioning equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to implement operational procedures, troubleshoot system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Research and assess customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to determine feasibility, cost, and maintenance needs.
• Specify system components or oversee product modifications to ensure compliance with engineering design and performance standards.
• Investigate equipment failures, diagnose operational issues, and offer recommendations to maintenance teams.
• Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators.
• Validate models using test data and develop predictive models for ablation and erosion.
• Define sub-scale tests to characterize the properties of insulator and ablator materials.
• Evaluate and suggest ablative materials and thermal protection system solutions for solid rocket motor applications.
• Prepare reports and presentations to document analyses and support work.
• Present findings to peers and clients during design reviews.
• Associate's Degree with 10-12 years of relevant experience.
• Engineering degree is mandatory.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong oral and written communication abilities.
• Capable of meeting deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficient analytical thinking skills.
• Knowledge in applied mechanics.
• Experience in design engineering.
• Familiarity with design optimization practices.
• Experience in conducting design reviews.
• Background in mechanical engineering.
• Prototyping experience.
• Knowledge in requirements engineering/analysis.
• Proficient in CAD software.
• Familiar with computer-aided engineering (CAE) software.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Must be able to remain stationary at a desk and/or computer for extended durations.
• Requires regular movement within GD-OTS facilities.
• May need to stand for extended periods.
• Work may involve both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying climates and/or operating machinery.
