Senior Pressure Vessel Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Offer mechanical engineering and structural analysis assistance for commercial and industrial HVAC products, with a focus on water- and air-cooled chillers.

• Aid in product development, warranty claims, sales efforts, and pressure vessel manufacturing processes.

• Perform design calculations in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and related standards.

• Analyze to enhance chiller components, including pressure vessels.

• Assist in the ASME pressure vessel certification process for Johnson Controls products.

• Support the registration of pressure vessels in Canada (CRN).

• Create field modification procedures for pressure vessels.

• Organize, schedule, and manage bi-annual updates to ASME pressure vessel calculations.

• Review patents and literature to comprehend technological limits and industry intellectual property.

• Conduct root-cause analyses for warranty and service issues.

• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior engineers.

• Collaborate with cross-functional product development teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• Over 5 years of experience in ASME pressure vessel or heat exchanger design.

• Knowledge of relevant pressure vessel design and testing standards, including ASME, CSA, PED, API, and TEMA.

• Acquainted with ASHRAE-15, ASCE-7, ASME B31, ASME PCC, NBIC, UL 207, and UL 60335-2-40.

• Experience in finite element analysis (FEA), especially with ANSYS Mechanical or similar software.

• Understanding of pressure vessel manufacturing and testing methodologies.

• Willingness to travel up to 10%.

• Professional Engineer’s license is preferred.

• HVAC industry experience is desirable.

• A Master’s degree in an engineering-related field is preferred.

• Experience with FEA tools for stress analysis is a plus.
