Systems Studies Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Conduct load flow, transient stability, reactive planning, infrastructure reinforcement, generator interconnection, and related studies independently.

• Perform insulation coordination, harmonic, short-circuit, grounding, and other T&D equipment studies.

• Engage in studies on renewable resources, distributed energy resources, battery energy storage, relay and protection, performance monitoring, and grid modernization applications.

• Manage and lead projects adhering to specified schedules and budgets.

• Develop and oversee project plans, goals, strategies, budgets, schedules, and resource assignments.

• Prepare and review project activity reports while communicating with stakeholders.

• Lead the development, organization, and analysis of data for system studies.

• Utilize data mining and visualization techniques to analyze, present data, and ensure data integrity.

• Create and test software tools to automate data analysis, monitoring, reporting, and data integrity processes.

• Support and spearhead business opportunities, proposals, RFP/RFQ responses, and technical information requests.

• Prepare, present, and provide training to others using technical reports and presentations.

• Author technical papers and articles for professional publications and industry conferences.

• Maintain, enhance, apply, and train others in grid planning, interconnection, operations, equipment application, and pertinent standards, orders, guidelines, and tariffs.

• Condition models and evaluate simulation outputs based on expected system and equipment capabilities.

• Estimate system and equipment parameters and offer feedback on questionable values.

• Assist with generator testing, model development, and validation to standards.

• Support study initiatives for other MEPPI divisions and departments.

• Contribute to pre-specification for T&D equipment and essential system design parameters.

• Adhere to MEPPI Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in Engineering: BSEE, MS/ME, or PhD (or equivalent) in electrical engineering with a focus on electric power engineering.

• At least 5 years of experience in power systems studies consulting, electric utility system planning, or within a transmission and distribution manufacturer’s application engineering group, or equivalent education and experience.

• Advanced knowledge of electric power systems and equipment operation and control.

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, presentation, communication, and technical writing skills.

• Ability to collaborate in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Capability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes in a fast-paced business environment.

• Proficiency and leadership in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ATP, EMTP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, CDEGS, PSLF, PSS/E, DigSILENT, DSA Tools, Power World, CYME, Synergi, etap, Milsoft, Plexos, PROMOD or MAPS, C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, and other related software/modeling tools.

• In-depth understanding of NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE industry standards and guidelines.
