This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee and offer technical guidance to a team of designers while acting as the lead designer.

• Ensure timely delivery of mechanical and piping outputs and services while adhering to budget constraints and quality standards.

• Execute advanced design tasks as a technical expert for intricate design projects.

• Implement project controls focusing on cost, schedule, and quality management.

• Adhere to departmental design and drafting standards.

• Identify and articulate project scope, specifications, design criteria, and modifications.

• Offer on-site support during project startup phases.

• Provide technical mentorship to less experienced drafting staff.

• Coordinate work activities with team members and the discipline lead.

• Develop mechanical and piping installation specifications subject to engineering review and approval.

• Lead and coordinate the design team to meet project scope, timelines, and budgetary goals.

• Mentor junior staff members.

• Engage in squad checks to ensure alignment among design disciplines.

• Review calculations for accuracy, compliance with codes and specifications, design criteria, and sound engineering practices.

• Determine construction quantities and prepare construction cost estimates.

• Assign tasks based on designers' technical capabilities and experience, ensuring efficient progress and quality support.

• Collaborate with design leaders from other disciplines and provide necessary support.

• Contribute to the planning of training programs, ongoing education opportunities, and professional development for staff.


⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is mandatory.

• SPED (Society of Piping Engineers and Designers) Certification is desirable.

• A minimum of 20 years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.

• Proficiency in the knowledge and application of piping materials.

• Experience in designing moderately complex process and utility piping systems.

• Familiarity with piping supports and restraints.

• Conduct flexibility analysis of piping systems.

• Understanding of manual valve sizing.

• Knowledge of design practices for sizing piping systems.

• Competence in sizing compressible fluid piping systems.

• Ability to identify, apply, and specify steam traps and liquid drainers.

• Capability to identify, apply, and specify safety valves and devices.

• Selection of piping specialty items based on design criteria.

• Experience in drafting P&IDs and GAs.

• Design expertise in piping-specific equipment and inline instrumentation arrangements.

• Familiarity with construction bulk materials and equipment specifications as well as installation details.

• Proficient in creating mechanical/piping installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.

• Understanding of workflow and information flow between disciplines.

• Awareness of schedule constraints and information requirements for mechanical/piping deliverables.

• Ability to accurately estimate task completion timelines.

• Capability to develop mechanical/piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval.

• Proficiency in developing construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets.

• Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

• Ability to lead a small team effectively.

• Competence in delivering presentations on Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.

• Proficient in 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation.

• Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong presentation abilities.

• Highly developed skills in virtual teamwork and cross-divisional collaboration.

• Capacity to provide interoffice execution support independently.

• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.

• Must possess authorization to work in the United States.
