Senior PHP Backend Developer, AI-Assisted Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Design, enhance, and sustain multi-step lead-capture flows and web experiences.

• Create backend functionality using PHP and MySQL.

• Integrate and troubleshoot third-party APIs effectively.

• Establish and manage logging, reporting, and analytics solutions.

• Optimize conversion performance through iterative improvements.

• Produce maintainable, reusable, and production-ready code.

• Operate within existing systems and enhance legacy implementations as required.

• Collaborate asynchronously with the engineering team while clearly communicating progress.

• Independently deploy production-ready flow updates.

• Utilize AI coding tools efficiently while ensuring code quality.

• Construct reliable logging and reporting solutions.

• Provide seamless API integrations with appropriate error handling.

• Engage proactively and require minimal oversight.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of full-time professional experience in PHP development as part of a team.

• Practical experience with AI coding tools in production settings; preference for Claude Code, or experience with Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or similar tools.

• Intermediate to advanced skills in MySQL, covering schema design, query writing and optimization, and safe production data updates.

• Intermediate to advanced JavaScript proficiency, including DOM manipulation, event handling, Fetch/async operations, and JSON processing.

• Intermediate to advanced CSS expertise, focusing on responsive and mobile-first design, cross-browser compatibility, and CSS custom properties.

• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development practices.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Capability to solve problems independently and work with limited supervision.

• Comfort in maintaining and enhancing existing or legacy codebases.

• Nice to have: Experience with Go (Golang), Python, AWS (EC2, Lightsail, Apache configuration, deployments), PostgreSQL, Linux/Shell (SSH, deployments, cron, command line), multi-step form flows, lead generation, performance marketing, conversion funnel analytics, REST API integration, and debugging.
