📋 Description

• Act as the primary expert on payroll tax for multi-state U.S. and Canadian payroll operations, ensuring adherence to federal, state, local, and provincial tax laws.

• Conduct independent research, analysis, and resolution of intricate payroll tax issues, agency inquiries, and notices from the IRS, state and local tax authorities, CRA, and provincial agencies.

• Lead payroll tax compliance activities related to employee hiring, transfers, and organizational changes, ensuring precise tax withholding and reporting configurations.

• Directly engage with federal, state, local, and Canadian tax agencies to address escalated tax issues and compliance challenges.

• Perform comprehensive audits and reviews of employee tax settings, payroll tax withholdings, and system configurations to identify and mitigate compliance risks.

• Manage payroll tax adjustments, amendments, and corrections, including complex W-2/W-2c processing and remediation of employee tax records.

• Conduct advanced analyses, reconciliations, and research to support payroll tax audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance initiatives.

• Review and validate quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, 940, W-2, W-2c, T4, and other necessary U.S. and Canadian tax reports.

• Provide expertise in Canadian payroll tax compliance, encompassing CPP, EI, EHT, federal and provincial tax obligations, and year-end reporting requirements.

• Examine state unemployment insurance rate notifications, evaluate impacts, and coordinate implementation with payroll vendors and internal stakeholders.

• Assess and oversee new tax account registrations, jurisdictional filing requirements, and agency account maintenance activities.

• Collaborate with payroll vendors, HR, Finance, and external agencies to resolve intricate tax issues and ensure accurate payroll tax reporting and remittance.

• Facilitate internal and external audits by providing technical guidance, documentation, and analysis related to payroll tax compliance.

• Identify opportunities to enhance payroll tax processes, controls, and compliance procedures, promoting operational efficiencies and risk mitigation.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma with over 5 years of progressive payroll experience in a multi-state setting, with a focus on payroll tax compliance.

• Experience with UKGPro payroll.

• Exceptional attention to detail, deadline-oriented, with outstanding communication skills.

• Ability to make appropriate assessments on when to escalate employee or system issues.

• Outcome-driven mindset with a strong emphasis on accuracy and timely processing.

• Organized and focused on achieving results, improving processes, managing complex escalations, and meeting operational deadlines.

• Strong capability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently and complete tasks.

• Proficient in MS Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas.

• Knowledgeable about federal, state, and local tax regulations, including those in Canada.

• Ability to identify gaps in controls and processes.
