This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +2 more states.
• Design and execute optimization algorithms, including mathematical programming, decomposition methods, and metaheuristics.
• Organize optimization challenges by establishing decision variables, constraints, objectives, feasibility/optimality trade-offs, and operational acceptance criteria.
• Model both static and dynamic real-time optimization and sequential decision-making scenarios.
• Prototype and validate methodologies, subsequently developing robust and maintainable production components.
• Deliver optimization pipelines and services that are ready for production use.
• Construct and maintain data ingestion and cleaning processes.
• Integrate optimization services into APIs, UI hooks, scheduling systems, and execution layers.
• Implement logging, monitoring, metrics, error handling, retries, fallbacks, and automated regression testing.
• Contribute to cloud deployment strategies and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with clients to gather requirements and gain insights into their domains.
• Define, communicate, and assess operational value, including service levels, costs, throughput, resilience, and sustainability.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards.
• Mentor and train team members on optimization and delivery best practices.
• Serve as a senior technical lead within cross-functional product and delivery teams alongside software engineers, product specialists, and domain experts.
• A relevant PhD or Master’s degree accompanied by experience in applied optimization problems, particularly within industry settings.
• Profound expertise in at least one of the following: Mixed Integer Linear Programming, Metaheuristics, Stochastic Programming, or Reinforcement Learning.
• Strong capability to structure and implement optimization solutions in real-world environments.
• Experience in agile teams and cross-functional delivery contexts.
• Background in technical leadership and/or team management.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Reliability, accountability, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to provide constructive feedback while fostering team wellbeing.
• Extensive programming skills in at least one of Python, Java, and/or Rust.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, Git workflows, CI/CD, containerization, experiment tracking, model/data versioning, and workflow orchestration patterns.
