This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +2 more states.
• Design and develop optimization algorithms, which encompass mathematical programming, decomposition methods, and metaheuristics.
• Establish decision variables, constraints, objectives, trade-offs between feasibility and optimality, and operational acceptance criteria.
• Model both static and dynamic real-time optimization as well as sequential decision-making challenges.
• Prototype and validate methodologies, subsequently refining them into robust and maintainable production components.
• Articulate the trade-offs between exact methods and heuristics, runtime versus optimality gap, and solution robustness versus complexity.
• Produce production-ready code for optimization pipelines and services.
• Construct and sustain robust data ingestion and cleaning pipelines.
• Integrate optimization services into workflow orchestration layers and the broader product stack.
• Implement logging, monitoring/metrics, error handling, retries, fallbacks, and automated regression testing.
• Contribute to cloud deployment practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure reproducibility, traceability, and secure releases.
• Collaborate with clients to gather specifications and comprehend their domains.
• Define value metrics such as service levels, costs, throughput, resilience, and sustainability.
• Communicate modeling choices, results, assumptions, limitations, and validation evidence effectively.
• Assess post-deployment impact and iterate based on operational feedback.
• Adhere to current and contribute to future engineering standards for optimization components.
• Conduct code reviews to enhance correctness, performance, readability, testability, and maintainability.
• Mentor and train team members on optimization topics and best practices for delivery.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and domain experts within a cross-functional product/delivery team.
• Deliver end-to-end decision-support capabilities encompassing algorithms, data, integration, runtime, and observability.
• Relevant PhD or Master’s degree along with experience in applied optimization problems, particularly in an industry setting.
• Profound expertise in at least one of the following: Mixed Integer Linear Programming, Metaheuristics, Stochastic Programming, or Reinforcement Learning.
• Strong capability to structure and implement optimization solutions in practical settings.
• Experience in agile teams and cross-functional delivery environments.
• Experience in providing technical or team leadership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Reliability, accountability, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to give constructive feedback while promoting team well-being.
• In-depth programming expertise in at least one of the following: Python, Java, and/or Rust.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms.
• Understanding of Git workflows.
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices.

• Familiarity with experiment tracking and model/data versioning.
