Senior Network Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +30 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, implement, and manage key components of Flexential’s proprietary API-driven network automation platform.

• Create backend services utilizing Python (Flask), RESTful APIs, data persistence, and supporting user interfaces.

• Construct and uphold frontend components using JavaScript, Angular or React, along with Bootstrap.

• Develop northbound APIs for service catalog, feasibility analysis, ordering, provisioning status, and lifecycle management.

• Execute authorization, rate limiting, input validation, idempotency, retry mechanisms, compensation, and observability for customer orders.

• Create network-as-code and orchestration workflows for provisioning, validating, modifying, and decommissioning network services.

• Automate MPLS L3VPN, EVPN, BGP peering, routing policies, DCI turn-up, cloud on-ramps, firewall policies, and 400G backbone modernization.

• Maintain vendor abstraction and device drivers for Arista, Cisco, and Fortinet platforms, incorporating Arista CloudVision Portal integration.

• Implement state reconciliation, drift detection, dry-run capabilities, rollback procedures, RBAC, secrets management, and credential lifecycle management.

• Integrate with ServiceNow and equip platform services for metrics, logs, traces, and operational observability.

• Engage in on-call rotations and incident response for automation-driven change events.

• Contribute to documentation, engineering standards, design reviews, and operational runbooks.

• Mentor engineers and lead technical design reviews for designated platform areas.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of pertinent technical experience in building and operating production software and network automation systems.

• 6+ years of experience in production Python service development using Flask or its equivalent, REST API design and consumption, data modeling, and automated testing.

• 6+ years of proficiency in MPLS L3VPN, BGP including MP-BGP/VPNv4, EVPN-VXLAN, OSPF/IS-IS, DCI, IP transit, and multi-vendor firewall policy.

• 5+ years of experience with network-as-code, intent-driven provisioning, multi-vendor configuration management, and validation.

• 3+ years of experience in building and operating customer-facing service APIs, encompassing contract versioning, tenant-scoped authorization, and rate limiting.

• 3+ years of experience with GitOps/CI/CD, pipeline authoring, automated test gates, and configuration-as-code delivery with verified rollback.

• 3+ years of network security engineering experience, including firewall and policy automation, RBAC, and secrets management.

• 3+ years of experience utilizing document, graph, and timeseries databases for network state and automation metadata.

• 3+ years of Linux systems administration, network management systems, and operational tooling integration experience.

• 2+ years of JavaScript experience with Angular or React and Bootstrap.

• Proven experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design for a platform area.

• Additional training and experience may be accepted as a substitute for the job requirements at the discretion of the manager.

• Preferred: Experience with ServiceNow integration; service-provider, carrier, or multi-site enterprise automation; Kubernetes, Helm, and container deployment; OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or Grafana; AI-assisted operations.
