Senior Modeling & Simulation Lead Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary technical authority for the government program office managing advanced M&S projects.

• Work in collaboration with engineers and project managers to meet both technical and programmatic goals.

• Provide oversight for government initiatives in Digital Engineering related to modernization projects in hypersonic test and evaluation infrastructure.

• Incorporate AI and ML into physics-based models to enhance predictive capabilities and expedite analysis.

• Evaluate contractor approaches for sustaining the Digital Thread from MBSE requirements through design, simulation, testing, and operations.

• Offer technical supervision for cloud-based digital engineering environments that integrate M&S tools, data repositories, and program management software.

• Assess contractor-developed M&S tools, methodologies, and validation plans for accuracy and fidelity.

• Analyze multi-physics coupling techniques and the integration of M&S with physical test data.

• Review and provide input on Verification, Validation, and Accreditation plans and outcomes.

• Provide guidance on performer-driven reviews, including SRR, IBR, PDR, CDR, and TIMs.

• Prepare and present technical evaluations, white papers, and recommendations to the Chief Engineer and Government Program Manager.

• Review and offer technical insights on M&S-related contract deliverables such as SEP and IMS.

• Lead the SETA team's adoption of GenAI and advanced digital tools.

• Convey complex M&S and digital engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Travel to performer worksites and government offices to observe development activities and engage in reviews and meetings.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related discipline, along with 10+ years of relevant experience.

• Proficiency in Digital Engineering principles, methodologies, and applications, including MBSE, Digital Thread, and Digital Twin concepts.

• Knowledge of digital ecosystems, including PLM tools, data management and protection, and HPC environments.

• Practical experience in developing or using advanced computational models such as CFD, FEA, or trajectory simulation for complex aerospace systems.

• Expertise in at least one M&S area: aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, combustion, or structural mechanics.

• Familiarity with cloud computing environments like AWS GovCloud or Azure Government.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including the preparation of technical reports and engineering briefings.

• Background in working within a cross-functional or matrixed engineering team setting.

• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of performing independently with minimal supervision.

• Competence in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

• Currently possess a Secret security clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Must satisfy eligibility criteria for access to classified information.

• Approximately 10+ years of relevant experience is required.

• Willingness to travel about 20% of the year to performer worksites and government offices.

• A Master's Degree or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or science field is preferred.

• Specific experience with M&S related to hypersonic, high-temperature, or reacting flow fields is desirable.

• Understanding of AI/ML techniques and their application in engineering analysis or data-driven modeling is a plus.

• Experience in evaluating other government contractors is advantageous.

• Familiarity with DoW weapon acquisition programs and T&E is desirable.

• Knowledge of large-scale data management strategies and standardized data formats like HDF5 is a plus.

• Hands-on experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler and SysML is preferred.

• Familiarity with PLM software such as Windchill and collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, or GitLab is a plus.

• Eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance is preferred.
