Senior Medical Director – Clinical Informatics

📋 Description

• Act as a senior physician and product leader within Clinic Operations and the Quality & Stars technical domains.

• Offer clinical insights and technical expertise for comprehensive Epic-enabled technology solutions.

• Drive organization-wide Epic optimization to enhance workflows, efficiency, quality, and patient safety.

• Convert organizational priorities into Epic workflows, decision support, reporting, and clinician tools.

• Assist with Epic upgrades, testing, implementation, change management, enterprise go-lives, and major releases.

• Oversee the adoption and effectiveness of Epic enhancements while suggesting ongoing improvements.

• Engage in enterprise governance committees as a reliable clinical advisor.

• Collaborate with physician, operational, and technical leaders to develop prioritized technology roadmaps.

• Communicate enterprise status, risks, and outcomes to leadership and governance committees.

• Serve as a point of escalation for clinical and workflow challenges.

• Identify ways to minimize administrative burdens and enhance clinician satisfaction.

• Advocate for standardization, best practices, and evidence-based care.

• Evaluate Epic roadmap releases, industry trends, automation, interoperability, and AI-enabled workflows.

• Mentor and develop members of the clinical informatics team and clinician-technologists.

• Maintain a 0.2 FTE clinical practice and 0.8 FTE clinical informatics leadership role.

• Travel domestically approximately 1–2 times per quarter.

• Report to the Chief Health Informatics Officer for CVS-HCD Technology.

⛳️ Requirements

• Licensed clinician — MD/DO (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Med-Peds), NP, or PA in good standing.

• Passionate about continuing in clinical practice (~20% clinical FTE).

• 10–12 years of pertinent work experience.

• High-performing clinician with a proven track record in care model outcomes, patient experience, and teamwork.

• Completion of Epic Builder training and certification, or willingness to achieve this within a specified timeframe.

• At least 5 years of experience in ambulatory clinical practice.

• Demonstrated interest or experience in clinical product development, clinical informatics, safety, quality improvement, healthcare operations, or workflow redesign.

• Background in presenting to and establishing relationships with senior stakeholders across a large enterprise.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and change management abilities.

• Experience in leading projects, quality improvement initiatives, or significant organizational change efforts.

• Knowledge of value-based care, quality metrics, and strategies for patient safety.

• Familiar with interoperability standards and healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and Promoting Interoperability.

• Highly accountable with outstanding follow-through.

• Board Certified in Clinical Informatics (preferred).

• Experience in leading or sponsoring Epic upgrades, optimization initiatives, or major go-lives (preferred).

• Proven leadership within the care model (preferred).
