Medical Director, Rheumatology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver direct consultative care to members dealing with autoimmune and inflammatory disorders through both synchronous and asynchronous appointments.

• Provide clinical guidance on the management of autoimmune diseases in collaboration with the members’ current rheumatologists and/or primary care physicians.

• Act as a clinical resource for members with complex or higher-acuity needs.

• Design staffing models, clinical workflows, and supervision frameworks for an expanding clinical team.

• Create and implement training programs for physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and other members of the care team.

• Oversee APPs and physicians in compliance with relevant state regulations.

• Recruit, hire, and onboard additional clinicians, including rheumatologists.

• Transition direct care responsibilities to the expanding team while ensuring oversight of clinical quality.

• Function as the supervising physician of record for the Autoimmune Program.

• Develop, assess, and uphold clinical protocols and escalation criteria.

• Review and offer guidance on complex or unclear cases.

• Ensure compliance with current standards of care in rheumatology.

• Collaborate with clinical leadership, product, and operations teams to enhance the autoimmune program.

• Track clinical quality metrics and member outcomes.

• Assist in the creation of educational content for both members and internal use.

• Provide clinical support to client success and commercial teams.

• Ensure adherence to scope-of-practice, telehealth, and licensure regulations across the states served.

• Maintain professional boundaries with members’ existing rheumatology and primary care relationships.

• Engage in chart reviews, quality assurance, and risk management activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• MD or DO degree.

• Active, unrestricted medical license(s).

• Board certification in Rheumatology (ABIM).

• Extensive clinical experience in managing patients with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.

• Experience in supervising or collaborating with multidisciplinary care teams, including nursing, coaching, and nutrition.

• Strong grasp of virtual/telehealth care delivery models.

• Comfort with innovative care delivery models, including the use of AI.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capability to translate clinical protocols into clear, actionable instructions for non-physician team members.

• Previous experience as a medical director, supervising physician, or in clinical leadership is preferred.

• Familiarity with digital health, remote patient monitoring, or chronic condition management programs is preferred.

• Multi-state licensure or willingness to obtain additional state licenses is preferred.
