This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +1 more state.
β’ Design, develop, and integrate mechanical components for solid rocket motor systems.
β’ Create CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, and structural interfaces.
β’ Perform mechanical design integration of solid propulsion systems.
β’ Design mechanical systems, manage mass properties, and integrate sub-assemblies.
β’ Utilize engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test mechanically functioning equipment.
β’ Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
β’ Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, troubleshoot system malfunctions, and provide technical insights.
β’ Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to assess feasibility, costs, and maintenance needs.
β’ Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure alignment with engineering design and performance criteria.
β’ Investigate equipment failures, diagnose issues, and recommend solutions to maintenance teams.
β’ Work alongside structural, thermal, and propulsion analysts.
β’ Provide support throughout the entire product lifecycle from concept design and configuration development to manufacturing, assembly, and static fire testing.
β’ Maintain configuration control and address design challenges.
β’ Offer technical assistance to manufacturing and testing operations.
β’ May lead projects or specific project phases and serve as a resource for less experienced team members.
β’ Associate's Degree and 5-7 years of experience required.
β’ A degree in engineering is mandatory.
β’ Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
β’ Strong understanding of applied mechanics.
β’ Familiarity with design engineering principles.
β’ Knowledge of design optimization techniques.
β’ Experience with design review processes.
β’ Competence in mechanical engineering concepts.
β’ Understanding of prototyping methods.
β’ Experience with requirements engineering/analysis.
β’ Proficient in CAD software applications.
β’ Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) software.
β’ Strong oral and written communication skills.
β’ Ability to meet deadlines effectively.
β’ Strong interpersonal skills.
β’ Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
β’ Analytical thinking skills are essential.
β’ Ability to remain stationary at a desk and/or computer for extended durations.
β’ Capacity to move regularly within GD-OTS facilities.
β’ Willingness to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to varying climates and/or operate machinery.
β’ Travel up to 25% may be required.
