This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
β’ Create and design heat rejection and HVAC systems tailored for data centers.
β’ Choose air/water-side cooling solutions such as fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment strategies.
β’ Execute both internal and external computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses.
β’ Oversee the preparation of CFD models, assess results, and suggest design alterations.
β’ Synchronize design modifications and their impacts with other project disciplines.
β’ Engineer redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems featuring backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring capabilities.
β’ Conduct heat-load calculations and capacity assessments based on IT equipment, power density, projected growth, and construction timelines.
β’ Evaluate HVAC loads for administrative and common facility spaces.
β’ Apply energy-efficient HVAC methodologies, including economizers, variable-speed drives, energy recovery systems, and airflow enhancement.
β’ Design air filtration and quality monitoring systems to safeguard sensitive IT infrastructure.
β’ Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to unify HVAC with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other vital systems.
β’ Engage in hands-on, client-facing roles on prominent data center projects.
β’ Partner with global AECOM teams on data center initiatives for international clients.
β’ A Bachelor's Degree coupled with over 8 years of relevant experience or a proven equivalent of experience and/or education.
β’ Familiarity with data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation.
β’ P.E. registration is mandatory.
β’ Understanding of the data center TER Standard Topology as defined by the Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002.
β’ Typically, a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required.
β’ A Master's degree or advanced studies in HVAC systems or energy management is preferred.
β’ Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), or LEED accreditation are beneficial.
β’ Must be eligible to work in the United States.
