This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Design and develop heat rejection and HVAC systems specifically for data centers.
• Choose air and water-side cooling systems, such as fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions.
• Perform internal and external computational fluid dynamics analyses to enhance airflow and system efficiency.
• Prepare or oversee the creation of CFD models and evaluate results to suggest design improvements.
• Coordinate modifications in design and understand their impacts with other project disciplines.
• Engineer redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems, which include backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring systems.
• Execute heat load assessments and capacity planning for IT equipment, power density, expected growth, construction phases, and facility administrative/common areas.
• Apply energy-efficient HVAC techniques, including economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery systems, and airflow management strategies.
• Design filtration systems and air-quality monitoring tools to safeguard IT equipment.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure the integration of HVAC with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other essential systems.
• Engage in a hands-on, client-facing capacity on dynamic data center projects for international clients.
• Work with AECOM teams globally.
• Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or proven equivalency in experience and/or education.
• Background in the installation and operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.
• P.E. registration is mandatory.
• A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a similar discipline from an accredited institution is generally required.
• Familiarity with data center TER Standard Topology as defined by Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002.
• Experience or understanding of HVAC systems and energy management practices.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Current H1-B visa holders may qualify for permanent residency sponsorship.
• Preferred: master's degree or advanced courses in HVAC systems or energy management.
• Preferred: CEM, BEMP, or LEED accreditation.
