This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Develop and oversee the content strategy for Carbon180’s policy, scientific, and programmatic initiatives.
• Create and refine blogs, explainers, one-pagers, newsletters, and social media content.
• Oversee newsletter development and collaborate with program staff on content creation.
• Manage editorial calendars while ensuring adherence to voice, quality, style guides, and internal communication resources.
• Convert complex technical policy, scientific, and program information into clear, accessible language.
• Write press releases, statements, media advisories, and talking points.
• Assist with media inquiries, coverage tracking, spokesperson preparation, and communications for events.
• Generate fundraising emails, appeals, campaign materials, donor resources, reports, and webinars.
• Develop supporter pipelines and lead donor audience segmentation efforts.
• Oversee the implementation of the public education campaign focused on carbon removal.
• Manage weekly content production across various channels, including web, social media, video, and email.
• Recruit and mentor colleagues contributing both on camera and in writing.
• Maintain the campaign website.
• Establish success metrics, monitor performance, and adapt communication strategies accordingly.
• Manage social media channels, including publishing, performance tracking, and short-form video for Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
• Lead SEO and GEO strategies while ensuring the upkeep of carbon180.org content.
• Conduct landscape and audience analyses.
• Facilitate biannual communications impact evaluations.
• Create performance reports for program, development, and leadership teams.
• Represent Carbon180 at meetings, conferences, advocacy initiatives, and other relevant in-person events.
• Report to the Director of Communications.
• Six to ten years of experience in communications, marketing, content creation, journalism, or advocacy within government, NGOs, or related sectors.
• Exceptional writing skills demonstrated through blogs, social media posts, and fundraising emails.
• Ability to analyze trends and challenges, contributing to strategies, research, or policy recommendations.
• Proficiency in social media management and performance analytics.
• Familiarity with email marketing and CRM platforms; Carbon180 utilizes Mailchimp and Salesforce.
• Experience working collaboratively across teams and providing peer-level support.
• Strong communication abilities with a knack for simplifying complex subjects for varied audiences.
• Experience representing teams in meetings and engaging with stakeholders.
• Dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice (DEIBJ).
• A focus on climate or carbon removal is appreciated but not mandatory.
• Engagement with donor audiences is encouraged but not essential.
• Familiarity with WordPress is a plus but not required.
• Experience in video production and relevant tools is welcomed but not mandatory.
• Capability to thrive in a remote-first setting while participating in in-person engagements as needed.
• 36-hour workweeks, with early closure at 1 pm every Friday.
