Senior Manager, Recommendation Algorithms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the strategy and implementation of client-centric personalization across recommendations, ranking, search, discovery, outfits, and similar-item experiences.

• Define the roadmap in collaboration with Product, Engineering, Design, Merchandising, Analytics, and Algorithms teams.

• Lead experimentation and measurement initiatives through offline assessments and online A/B testing.

• Utilize engagement, selection, retention rate, items sold, revenue, margin, and customer satisfaction metrics to inform decision-making.

• Manage the complete algorithm lifecycle from opportunity assessment and modeling to experimentation, production deployment, monitoring, and operational support.

• Collaborate with Engineering to create scalable, dependable, observable, and explainable recommendation systems.

• Promote the team's adoption of generative AI, LLM-based evaluations, and cutting-edge technologies.

• Cultivate technical excellence, accountability, learning, and teamwork.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline.

• Over 5 years of experience in designing and implementing machine learning solutions, preferably in recommendation systems, search, ranking, personalization, e-commerce, or retail.

• Strong practical knowledge of candidate generation, scoring, ranking, retrieval, diversification, contextual personalization, search relevance, or multi-objective optimization.

• More than 2 years of experience in a technical lead or managerial role.

• Proficiency in writing and reviewing production-quality code, preferably in Python.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed data systems, scalable ML architectures, experimentation, offline evaluation, and production monitoring.

• Familiarity with designing and interpreting A/B tests and evaluation frameworks.

• Capability to link model performance to customer and business outcomes.

• Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts, uncertainties, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Ability to build trust and influence roadmaps among cross-functional teams.

• Working knowledge of generative AI, AI-assisted development tools, and innovative AI/ML methodologies.

• A Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
