Senior Manager, Mobile Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Define, own, and implement the long-term engineering strategy for the WEX Mobility Mobile Experience, which encompasses card and vehicle management, mobility payments, and future platform capabilities.

• Collaborate with architects and technical leaders to establish the technical vision and architecture for the Mobile platform.

• Create and uphold the engineering roadmap in alignment with business priorities and industry best practices.

• Encourage innovation, continuous learning, collaboration, ownership, and operational excellence.

• Enhance engineering processes to boost delivery velocity, quality, and developer productivity.

• Lead intricate cross-functional engineering initiatives from planning through execution.

• Work alongside Product, UX, and business leaders to prioritize investments and deliver customer-focused mobile experiences.

• Set up and track engineering metrics to ensure predictability, quality, reliability, and team effectiveness.

• Drive planning, execution, and continuous improvement via sprint planning, roadmap assessments, and operational reviews.

• Establish measurable objectives and key results in collaboration with Product and business leaders.

• Advocate for reusable platforms, shared components, and engineering best practices across Mobility engineering teams.

• Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain engineering managers and software engineers.

• Offer coaching, performance feedback, and career development support.

• Manage team capacity and staffing needs.

• Convey strategy, progress, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least 4 years of experience in engineering management, leading software engineering teams.

• Proven experience in leading native iOS and Android applications or cross-platform mobile applications using React Native or Flutter.

• In-depth understanding of modern mobile architectures, application lifecycle management, and software engineering best practices.

• Strong communication, organizational, stakeholder management, and decision-making abilities.

• Familiarity with security, privacy, authentication, authorization, and data protection principles applicable to mobile applications.

• Experience with automation, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering productivity practices.

• Demonstrated people leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.

• Capability to function in ambiguous environments and lead both organizational and technical transformations.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience utilizing analytics and customer insights to guide product and engineering choices.

• Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Preferred: Proficiency in Swift, SwiftUI, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, or other contemporary mobile development technologies.

• Preferred: Experience with shared mobile platforms, SDKs, reusable frameworks, or design systems.

• Preferred: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release automation, feature flag platforms, and mobile observability.

• Preferred: Familiarity with payment, fleet, FinTech, or commercial card solutions.

• Preferred: Experience with payment networks or card schemes.

• Preferred: Knowledge of closed-loop or proprietary payment systems.
