This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish and oversee the lien negotiation function.

• Identify, assess, negotiate, and resolve medical liens and subrogation claims.

• Lead a team of lien negotiators, developing strategies for complex and high-value liens.

• Negotiate reductions on medical provider liens, letters of protection, hospital liens, health insurer and ERISA plan reimbursement claims, Medicare, Medicaid, MedPay, and pre-settlement funding loans.

• Formulate reduction strategies considering lien type, governing law, case value, policy limits, and procurement-cost principles.

• Acquire final amounts on general liens, such as child support liens.

• Personally manage high-value, contested, or escalated lien issues.

• Collaborate with attorneys on lien exposure, settlement assessments, demands, and mediation strategies.

• Recruit, train, manage, and mentor lien negotiators and support personnel.

• Set performance objectives and monitor reduction, savings, cycle time, and inventory metrics.

• Develop standardized workflows, scripts, templates, and escalation procedures.

• Supervise lien identification and verification, including itemized bills, lien notifications, ERISA plan documents, and conditional payment letters.

• Identify and obtain any potentially missing liens.

• Ensure adherence to Medicare Secondary Payer regulations, Medicaid recovery laws, state hospital lien statutes, ethics, and trust accounting standards.

• Collaborate with finance on settlement statements, lien holds, and prompt disbursement.

• Maintain records of negotiations, agreements, and final payoff confirmations.

• Cultivate relationships with medical providers, lien-purchasing companies, health plans, third-party recovery vendors, and government entities.

• Assess and manage external lien resolution vendors.

• Report departmental performance, trends, and risks to firm leadership.

• Maintain lien data within the case management system and promote best-practice implementation.

• Identify opportunities for automation and process enhancement.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in lien resolution, subrogation, or settlement negotiation, ideally in a personal injury or plaintiff-side context.

• At least 3 years of experience in managing or leading a team.

• Proven track record of achieving substantial lien reductions across various lien types.

• Working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid recovery, ERISA (self-funded vs. fully insured plans), and state lien and made-whole/common-fund doctrines.

• Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

• Proficient in case management software and Excel or similar reporting tools.

• JD, paralegal certification, or equivalent legal training is preferred.

• Experience in a high-volume personal injury firm or lien resolution company is preferred.

• Familiarity with medical billing, CPT/ICD coding, PIP statutes, and reasonable-value analysis is preferred.

• Experience in building or scaling a lien department is preferred.

• Persuasive, relationship-focused negotiation skills.

• Sound judgment regarding risk and compliance.

• Capability to manage a large inventory and meet deadlines.

• Data-driven approach with a focus on measurable client outcomes.

• Collaborative mindset when working with attorneys and staff.

• Experience managing remote employees is recommended in the application.

• Experience in the personal injury industry is requested in the application.
