Senior Manager, Environment & Sustainability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement comprehensive environmental and sustainability strategies, goals, and performance metrics across the enterprise.

• Recognize emerging trends, risks, and opportunities in sustainability, climate change, resource management, and environmental stewardship.

• Propel continuous improvement initiatives that enhance environmental performance and contribute to business success.

• Offer strategic advice to executive leadership and business stakeholders.

• Formulate sustainability policies, standards, and governance processes.

• Promote organizational accountability and commitment to environmental responsibility.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international environmental regulations and standards.

• Evaluate environmental risks and devise mitigation strategies.

• Oversee environmental audits, inspections, corrective action plans, and compliance reporting.

• Direct the collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental and sustainability data.

• Manage ESG disclosures and reporting in line with relevant frameworks and stakeholder expectations.

• Spearhead initiatives focusing on greenhouse gas reduction, energy management, waste minimization, water stewardship, pollution prevention, and circular economy.

• Set targets, track performance, and implement action plans to achieve environmental goals.

• Collaborate with operations, facilities, procurement, legal, finance, human resources, and other departments.

• Act as the organization's representative with regulators, industry associations, customers, consultants, community groups, and other external stakeholders.

• Oversee departmental budgets and expenditures related to sustainability programs.

• Assess and manage consultants, contractors, and third-party service providers.

• Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate environmental and sustainability personnel as needed.

• Stay updated on environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks, technologies, and industry trends.

• Support strategic business initiatives that pertain to environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Natural Resources, Environmental Management, Industrial Engineering, Public Policy, or a related field is required.

• A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Business Administration (MBA), Public Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.

• A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental management, sustainability, ESG, environmental compliance, or similar areas.

• At least 5 years of leadership experience overseeing environmental or sustainability programs, teams, or enterprise initiatives.

• Experience in developing and executing sustainability strategies within complex, multi-site organizations is preferred.

• Proven track record of leading cross-functional projects and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

• Experience managing environmental compliance programs and engaging with regulatory bodies is preferred.

• Background in developing ESG reports and sustainability disclosures is preferred.

• Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, compliance requirements, and sustainability principles.

• Strong comprehension of ESG reporting frameworks, sustainability metrics, and performance measurement systems.

• Familiarity with climate risk assessments, greenhouse gas accounting, energy management, waste reduction, and resource conservation initiatives.

• Ability to create and execute strategic plans that align sustainability objectives with business goals.

• Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.

• Strong project and program management skills.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Advanced data analysis and reporting proficiency.

• Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

• Capacity to influence and collaborate with executives, employees, regulators, customers, and external stakeholders.

• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost-benefit analysis.

• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting while fostering collaboration across geographically dispersed teams.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and sustainability, environmental, and reporting software applications.

• A high level of professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

• Preferred certifications include: Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Sustainability Excellence Associate (SEA), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), ISSP Certified Sustainability Professional (ISSP-CSP), Professional Engineer (PE), or similar environmental designations.
