Senior Manager, DC Safety

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the implementation of Alo’s safety strategy throughout the distribution center network.

• Create, execute, and continuously enhance scalable safety programs, standards, processes, and systems.

• Guide, mentor, and develop safety leaders within the distribution center network.

• Maintain a robust field presence in distribution centers to evaluate risk, coach leaders, pinpoint improvement opportunities, and support operational performance.

• Act as a subject matter expert and a trusted safety advisor for Distribution Operations and senior management.

• Identify workplace hazards and operational risks, implementing sustainable corrective measures.

• Establish and uphold processes for risk assessment, inspections, audits, and corrective action management.

• Provide safety leadership in areas such as material handling equipment, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, automation, facilities, emergency response, material flow, and other distribution center operations.

• Oversee safety during new site openings, expansions, peak periods, automation projects, operational shifts, and other high-risk activities.

• Direct incident reporting, investigation, root-cause analysis, escalation, documentation, and corrective action processes.

• Analyze incidents, near misses, hazards, field observations, and safety performance data to uncover trends and opportunities for prevention.

• Establish and track leading and lagging safety indicators, developing reports and dashboards for both distribution center and executive leadership.

• Ensure distribution centers adhere to all relevant federal, state, provincial, and local occupational health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards.

• Assist with regulatory inspections, inquiries, investigations, recordkeeping, and corrective actions.

• Collaborate with Distribution Operations, People/HR, Facilities, Engineering, Asset Protection/Security, Legal, and other essential stakeholders.

• Communicate safety risks, performance updates, priorities, and recommendations to frontline staff, site management, and senior leadership.

• Aid in the development of Alo’s safety organization, programs, and capabilities as the distribution network expands.

• Travel frequently throughout the distribution center network to provide on-site leadership and assistance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline.

• 7–10+ years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety, preferably within distribution, warehousing, fulfillment, logistics, manufacturing, or another high-volume operational setting.

• 3–5+ years of experience in people leadership, including leading and developing safety professionals and/or multi-site teams.

• Proven track record in developing, implementing, and scaling safety programs across complex operations.

• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and relevant occupational health and safety principles and standards.

• Experience in conducting incident investigations, root-cause analyses, risk assessments, audits, inspections, and corrective action management.

• Capability to analyze safety data, identify trends and risks, and translate insights into actionable business strategies.

• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.

• Ability to influence and cultivate effective relationships across various functions and organizational levels.

• Proficiency in operating effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while balancing strategic priorities with hands-on operational support.

• Willingness to travel 50% or more, including frequent visits to distribution center locations.

• Experience leading safety initiatives across multiple distribution centers, fulfillment centers, warehouses, or geographically dispersed operations is strongly preferred.

• Experience in supporting new distribution center launches, expansions, automation projects, peak operations, or significant operational changes is preferred.

• Experience working with large hourly, temporary, agency, or contingent workforces is preferred.

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent professional safety certification is highly preferred; ASP, CIH, CHMM, or other recognized safety/EHS credentials are also valued.
