This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Lead and cultivate a team of data engineers tasked with managing ETL workflows that transfer data into athenahealth environments.
• Provide technical guidance for Python-based tools, utilities, and automation that facilitate import, migration, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting.
• Define source-to-target mappings, business rules, migration requirements, and technical strategies in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Review incoming and outgoing data flows to pinpoint gaps, defects, transformation challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Oversee interoperability workflows utilizing HL7 and FHIR standards.
• Support EHI export initiatives and ensure that outputs are thorough, accurate, and compliant.
• Investigate complex data challenges, eliminate obstacles, and promote cross-functional resolution.
• Establish and uphold technical documentation for processes, dependencies, standards, validation, and operations.
• Leverage AI to enhance productivity while ensuring that human review confirms output accuracy and appropriateness.
• Coach, mentor, and assist team members through technical advice, constructive feedback, and career development.
• Drive improvements in scalable, reliable, and repeatable migration processes.
• Support testing and validation strategies for both import and export processes.
• Engage in planning, prioritization, status reviews, and issue triage.
• Maintain reusable tools, templates, and engineering standards.
• Coordinate timelines, dependencies, and delivery expectations across product, implementation, operations, and engineering.
• Minimize manual effort through automation and refined process design.
• Contribute to capacity management and work intake prioritization.
• Build an operational nerve center to enhance project visibility, accountability, reporting, and escalation management.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 7 years of experience in data engineering, ETL, data migration, or a related technical discipline.
• More than 2 years of experience leading engineers, mentoring technical personnel, or managing technical projects or teams.
• Proficient in ETL, SQL, and Python.
• Experience in supporting data imports, conversions, migrations, or similar data movement tasks.
• Familiar with HL7 and FHIR interoperability standards.
• Preferably experienced with EHI Export or related healthcare data export workflows.
• Background in healthcare data, healthcare technology, or implementation-focused teams is preferred.
• Capable of analyzing data, identifying issues, and clearly communicating technical outcomes.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
