This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Montana.
• Assist American Forests in collaborating with the USDA Forest Service in Montana by developing and executing projects and partnerships.
• Collaborate with the Region Director to promote regional reforestation efforts and partnerships on National Forest System lands.
• Manage partnerships related to reforestation and forest resilience, including organizing partner meetings, reporting, and budgeting.
• Propel initiatives for forest restoration projects, plans, partnerships, and agreements.
• Supervise the implementation of reforestation, which includes planning, unit layout, contract administration, field execution, quality control, and monitoring.
• Coordinate the collection and analysis of field data, adaptive management, protocols, templates, and best practices.
• Oversee logistics for field operations and ensure compliance with safety training and practices.
• Stay informed about developments in silviculture, reforestation, forestry, and natural resource management.
• Foster and maintain relationships with agencies and regional stakeholders.
• Supervise both seasonal and full-time staff, handling timesheets, leave approvals, performance evaluations, recruitment, hiring, and training.
• Provide on-site supervisory support for employees, field crews, and additional field support personnel.
• Manage grants and agreements, including budgets, invoices, payment requests, match documentation, and modifications.
• Aid in managing contractor relationships and oversight.
• Assist in organizing meetings, conferences, events, presentations, site visits, and field tours.
• Report to the Director of Northern Rockies and may oversee up to five direct reports.
• Bachelor’s degree in forestry or natural resources with a minimum of three (3) years of experience; or a Master’s degree in forestry or natural resources with at least two (2) years of experience.
• Field experience in forestry and/or reforestation.
• Proven experience in planning and executing forest management actions on federal lands.
• Experience in conducting fieldwork and implementing field-based projects.
• Demonstrated experience in supervising teams, preferably in field-based and remote settings.
• Working knowledge and experience in managing projects and partnerships.
• Excellent organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with GPS and GIS, including AGOL, Field Maps, and Survey123, for mapping and geospatial data analysis.
• Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it with sponsorship.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel frequently to work sites.
• State forestry license and/or Society of American Foresters Certified Forester certification is preferred.
• Experience with partnerships or projects involving the USDA Forest Service is preferred.
• Preferred experience in contract oversight and administration.
• Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
