This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho.
• Develop and implement projects and partnerships with the USDA Forest Service in Idaho.
• Collaborate effectively with staff from American Forests and the USDA Forest Service.
• Manage program operations, field activities, safety protocols, and logistics.
• Oversee partnerships focused on reforestation and forest resilience.
• Promote forest restoration initiatives, planning, partnerships, and agreements.
• Supervise reforestation efforts on National Forest Service lands, including planning, unit layout, contracting, planting, release, restoration, and monitoring.
• Coordinate the collection and analysis of field data and engage in adaptive management.
• Maintain expertise in silviculture, reforestation, forestry, and natural resource management.
• Foster relationships with agencies and regional stakeholders.
• Supervise both seasonal and permanent staff, overseeing timesheet management, leave requests, and performance evaluations.
• Lead recruitment, hiring, and training processes as necessary.
• Collaborate on grant and agreement management, including budgets, invoices, payment requests, match documentation, and modifications.
• Support the management and oversight of contractor relationships.
• Assist with meetings, conferences, events, public presentations, site visits, and field tours.
• Report to the Director of Northern Rockies and potentially oversee up to five direct reports.
• Bachelor’s degree in forestry or natural resources with a minimum of three (3) years of experience; or a Master’s degree in forestry or natural resources with at least two (2) years of experience.
• Experience in field forestry and/or reforestation.
• Proven experience in planning and executing forest management actions on federal lands.
• Background in conducting fieldwork and implementing field-based projects.
• Experience supervising teams, preferably in field-based and remote settings.
• Working knowledge and experience in project and partnership management.
• Strong organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred possession of a state forestry license and/or Society of American Foresters Certified Forester certification.
• Current First Aid certification or a willingness to be sponsored to obtain it.
• Proficiency in GPS and GIS technologies, including AGOL, Field Maps, and Survey123.
• Preferred experience in contract oversight and administration.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
• Capacity to travel frequently and work under field conditions, including the ability to lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
