Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer – Datacom

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Upgrade, administer, and fine-tune mainframe database software for clients utilizing CA Datacom environments.

• Enhance database performance and conduct thorough performance assessments.

• Assist with the onboarding of new clients.

• Collaborate with vendor representatives to ensure prompt resolution of database issues.

• Carry out daily database maintenance tasks, including changes in database definitions, backups and restorations, monitoring space growth, and reorganizing databases.

• Develop and uphold disaster recovery protocols.

• Offer comprehensive support for customer inquiries and requests.

• Engage in a scheduled 24x7 on-call support rotation.

• Maintain documentation for tasks that have been completed.

• Follow change management policies diligently.

• Configure, manage, and customize CA Datacom and associated products.

• Formulate policies and procedures for database management, security, maintenance, and utilization.

• Evaluate new product versions and inform clients about their advantages.

• Diagnose production database challenges and rectify performance issues.

• Assist in both planned and emergency database recovery operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree is mandatory, along with or in place of equivalent work experience.

• Over 10 years of professional experience in CA Datacom and related products for administration and systems programming support.

• Familiarity with a large, 24x7 environment and capability to handle competing priorities.

• Proven ability to respond swiftly and efficiently to support requests from various clients.

• Availability for after-hours on-call support.

• Proficient in writing, debugging, and optimizing SQL.

• Prior experience in a CA Datacom environment is essential.

• Self-driven and capable of working independently.

• Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.

• Ability to collaborate with a team and provide assistance to colleagues when necessary.

• Knowledge of system programming across multiple DBMS’s is an advantage.

• Extensive experience with best practices in software management, maintenance, and documentation.

• Proficient in configuring and managing CA Datacom, CA Datacom CICS Services, CA Datacom Server, CA Ideal, CA Dataquery, VSAM Transparency, and CA IPC.

• Skilled in developing strategies, processes, and best practices for CA Datacom systems programming.

• Experience in establishing policies and procedures for database management, disaster recovery, product and database security, maintenance, and utilization.

• Familiarity with reviewing new versions of CA Datacom and related products.

• Experience in the disaster recovery of system and application databases.

• Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving production database challenges.

• Skilled at identifying and addressing performance issues.

• Experience in administering and customizing CA Datacom, CA Dataquery, CA Datacom CICS Services, CA Ideal, and CA IPC.

• Knowledge in database design and experience with batch and online CA Datadictionary.

• Proficient in database monitoring utilizing CA Sysview.

• Familiar with coding and utilizing CA Datacom and related product utilities.

• Capable of supporting both planned and unplanned database recovery activities.
