
Senior Linux Systems Engineer – Object Storage

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute Linux engineering and administration for thousands of both bare metal and virtual machines.
• Design expansive cloud environments for clustered object storage solutions.
• Diagnose server hardware problems while overseeing, maintaining, and operating a production environment.
• Automate intricate routine tasks and deploy via an IaaS model utilizing tools such as Chef or Ansible.
• Configure and enhance Linux kernel parameters, file systems, and storage subsystems to optimize object storage performance.
• Conduct in-depth troubleshooting of complex network and storage issues using tcpdump, iperf, iostat, and customized monitoring solutions.
• Develop intricate scripts and programs for automation, tools, frameworks, dashboards, and alerts.
• Evaluate requirements and craft robust, dependable solutions in collaboration with internal peers and business partners.
• Work alongside engineers to share best practices and disseminate new technologies.
• Lead technical teams, manage project timelines, and monitor inter-team dependencies.
• Monitor project activities to ensure that schedules and priorities are adhered to.
• Identify, track, resolve, and escalate critical issues as necessary.
• Collaborate with leadership to create tools for analyzing and forecasting organic and surge-based growth.
• Act as a technical leader representing the development team across various workgroups.
• Participate in an on-call rotation with fellow team members.
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.
• Over 7 years of professional experience with large-scale, distributed systems.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Extensive knowledge of Linux internals including virtual memory management, process scheduling, and storage I/O subsystems.
• Proven capability to diagnose and resolve kernel-level performance challenges.
• Proficient with Linux performance analysis and monitoring tools, along with custom metrics collection.
• Experience with on-premise storage technologies (both block and object).
• Practical experience with Kubernetes-native and AWS S3-compatible object storage solutions.
• Strong grounding in networking fundamentals with hands-on experience in TCP/IP, routing protocols, network security, and/or optimizing high-bandwidth data transfers.
• Proficient with Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.
• Automation experience utilizing Python/Go scripting and Chef configuration management.
• Strong emphasis on security in system management and code development/review.
• Familiarity with project and program tools such as Jira and GitLab.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with professionally distributed, cross-functional teams across multiple divisions globally.
• Willingness to travel for 2-3 business-related trips per year for group meetings.
• Proven experience leveraging AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business results.
• Must undergo and successfully pass additional background and fingerprint checks as required by government clients.
