This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and execute realistic lighting solutions for both indoor and outdoor game settings.

• Define lighting atmospheres and visual narrative while upholding a consistent and realistic artistic direction.

• Configure dynamic and/or baked real-time lighting in accordance with technical specifications.

• Balance visual fidelity and performance across targeted platforms.

• Ensure that lighting enhances gameplay clarity, navigation, and player awareness.

• Develop lighting configurations for various times of day, different weather scenarios, and environmental conditions.

• Collaborate with Environment Artists, Level Designers, Technical Artists, VFX Artists, Programmers, the Art Director, and the wider development team.

• Partner with environment and level artists to seamlessly integrate materials, geometry, and lighting.

• Identify and rectify issues related to lighting, shadows, exposure, reflections, and visibility.

• Optimize lighting and rendering capabilities for multiplayer environments while adhering to performance budgets.

• Create effective lighting setups that cater to various player perspectives and gameplay situations.

• Collaborate on lighting technologies, shaders, rendering features, and optimization strategies.

• Engage in visual reviews and make adjustments based on received feedback.

• Establish and uphold lighting workflows, best practices, and comprehensive documentation.

• Contribute to the overall visual quality and lighting pipeline of the game.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience as a Lighting Artist within the gaming industry.

• Strong grasp of realistic lighting concepts, color theory, composition, exposure, and the principles of photography/cinematography.

• Background in creating lighting for realistic 3D environments.

• Comprehensive understanding of real-time rendering and the performance impacts of various lighting techniques.

• Familiarity with Unreal Engine.

• Solid understanding of PBR, materials, reflections, shadows, and post-processing effects.

• Capability to independently troubleshoot lighting and rendering challenges.

• A keen artistic eye and meticulous attention to detail.

• A portfolio showcasing strong environment lighting and realistic visual projects.

• Must be a current resident of Ontario or willing to relocate to Ontario.
