This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
β’ Take ownership and implement the lighting vision for BulletFarm's upcoming AAA title.
β’ Design and execute high-quality real-time lighting for gameplay environments, cinematics, and scripted scenarios.
β’ Manage the lighting process from initial look development to final in-engine refinement.
β’ Set up lighting standards, workflows, documentation, and best practices.
β’ Work in-depth with Unreal Engine 5's Lumen Global Illumination and reflection systems.
β’ Utilize MegaLights and modern UE5 lighting technologies to create visually ambitious and performant scenes.
β’ Convert the project's visual direction into engaging lighting across diverse environments and aesthetic worlds.
β’ Employ lighting techniques to set the mood, enhance environmental storytelling, guide player attention, and improve gameplay visibility.
β’ Collaborate closely with Environment Art, Technical Art, Design, and Engineering teams.
β’ Analyze and optimize lighting to achieve visual and performance goals across all supported platforms.
β’ Diagnose lighting, shadowing, exposure, reflection, and performance challenges in Unreal Engine 5.
β’ Contribute to environment art production by creating, modifying, dressing, and optimizing environment assets.
β’ Develop scalable lighting and environment-content workflows in alignment with project and team growth.
β’ Review externally produced content and offer feedback based on visual and technical standards.
β’ 6+ years of experience as a Lighting Artist or in a comparable role on one or more released AAA or AA titles.
β’ Expert-level skills in Unreal Engine 5 lighting workflows.
β’ Profound knowledge of Lumen, including Global Illumination, reflections, performance aspects, and troubleshooting techniques.
β’ Practical experience with MegaLights or advanced next-gen real-time lighting systems and workflows.
β’ Strong grasp of real-time lighting principles, such as composition, color, value, exposure, shadow, contrast, and visual hierarchy.
β’ Proven ability to create atmospheric lighting that supports both artistic direction and gameplay clarity.
β’ Solid understanding of lighting optimization and its impact on real-time performance.
β’ Experience in collaborating with Environment Art, Technical Art, Design, and Engineering teams.
β’ Capability to independently execute established visual direction at a high-quality standard.
β’ Strong artistic eye and a portfolio showcasing outstanding real-time lighting work.
β’ Willingness to contribute beyond a narrowly defined lighting role as production needs dictate.
β’ Preferred: proficiency in Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, or similar tools.
β’ Preferred: experience with modular environment workflows, materials, set dressing, and world-building techniques.
β’ Preferred: experience with MegaLights in a production or advanced development setting.
β’ Preferred: experience lighting horror, action, grounded dark fantasy, or similarly atmospheric genres.
β’ Preferred: experience with cinematics and the Unreal Engine Sequencer.
β’ Preferred: familiarity with Nanite, Virtual Shadow Maps, material systems, and other modern Unreal Engine 5 rendering technologies.
β’ Preferred: experience optimizing lighting and environment content for current-generation consoles and high-end PCs.
β’ Preferred: experience working with external development or outsourcing partners.
