Senior Legal Counsel, Data Privacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the internal legal expert and collaborate closely with the executive team.

• Direct the legal strategy and execution for products, particularly in areas such as privacy, data, AI, compliance, commercial contracts, customer security specifications, and scalable legal support.

• Create efficient and repeatable systems for addressing privacy inquiries, especially those related to Subscriber Signals.

• Provide guidance on Kit, SparkLoop, Subscriber Signals, and the network of creator tools.

• Report directly to the Chief Operating Officer while collaborating with leaders in product, sales, finance, people operations, security, sponsorships, and engineering.

• Manage core legal responsibilities in-house and assess when to engage specialized external counsel.

• Evaluate legal risks, opportunities, ambiguities, and ongoing tasks during the onboarding process.

• Anticipate future legal requirements and develop scalable systems for privacy intake, guidance, and escalation.

• Oversee GDPR and data compliance vetting processes.

• Set up procedures for addressing customer security questionnaires.

• Develop playbooks, templates, intake procedures, and self-service resources for recurring questions related to privacy, data use, and compliance.

• Collaborate throughout the product lifecycle on initiatives and feature launches.

• Focus on legal risk prioritization, minimize dependence on external counsel, and streamline legal processes.

• Assist Kit in enhancing its operations concerning privacy, compliance, product counsel, commercial contracts, and security support.


⛳️ Requirements

• Profound knowledge in data, compliance, and product matters.

• Strong ability to interpret U.S. and European data privacy regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.

• Familiarity with the distinctions between data controllers and processors.

• Capability to convert privacy and compliance requirements into scalable playbooks, templates, intake processes, and self-service resources.

• Experience in supporting customer security questionnaires and collaborating with security, sales, product, and engineering teams.

• Knowledge of SOC 2 Type II and associated legal, privacy, and customer obligations.

• Understanding of intellectual property law related to branding, content, and software.

• Familiarity with commercial contracts.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to serve as a trusted advisor.

• Experience as in-house counsel at a technology company or managing a tech portfolio at a leading startup-focused firm.

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school in the United States.

• Active membership in good standing with a State Bar Association.

• Strategic, business-oriented mindset with collaborative and creative problem-solving capabilities.

• Residing in the United States.

• Legally authorized to work in the country of residence.

• Must not require visa sponsorship presently or in the future.
