Senior Legal Counsel – Americas

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Provide guidance to business leaders throughout the Americas regarding legal risks, decision-making, and strategic priorities.

β€’ Draft, review, and negotiate intricate agreements with customers, suppliers, service providers, subcontractors, channel partners, technology firms, and other commercial entities.

β€’ Create scalable contract management processes, which include playbooks, templates, and workflows.

β€’ Offer advice on tenders, contract risk assessments, claims, change orders, project execution, and methods to avoid disputes.

β€’ Oversee litigation, arbitration, pre-litigation claims, settlements, and external legal counsel, managing strategy, budgets, reporting, and quality assurance.

β€’ Counsel on employment and human resources issues, including performance management, investigations, terminations, reorganizations, immigration, and cross-border workforce challenges.

β€’ Provide strategic legal advice on mergers and acquisitions, minority investments, divestitures, joint ventures, and restructuring initiatives.

β€’ Assist other ABB divisions, business sectors, and corporate functions as required by business needs.

β€’ Collaborate with ABB legal professionals across divisions, countries, specialized teams, and regions following established coverage models and matter-allocation principles.

β€’ Coordinate legal work, clarify matter ownership, and share legal resources with other ABB lawyers.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Juris Doctor (JD) with active bar admission in at least one relevant jurisdiction.

β€’ A minimum of 10 years of experience in-house or at a law firm, supporting industrial, engineering, technology, construction, or services sectors across various legal disciplines and jurisdictions in a multinational environment.

β€’ Capability to work independently within a highly collaborative setting and manage competing priorities effectively.

β€’ Ability to collaborate with divisional, business area, regional, country, and specialized legal counsel.

β€’ Skill in clarifying ownership and scope while advising senior stakeholders under time constraints.

β€’ Strong commercial acumen.

β€’ Significant experience with commercial contracts, disputes, strategic transactions, and cross-border legal matters.

β€’ Familiarity with AI tools such as Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or Harvey is preferred; alternatively, a demonstrated eagerness to learn and rapidly acquire AI fluency is acceptable.

β€’ Comprehensive understanding of anti-bribery and anti-corruption regulations throughout the Americas, including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

β€’ Experience in supporting internal investigations.

β€’ Knowledge of professional, contractor, electrical licensing, and related regulatory frameworks in one or more jurisdictions in the Americas.

β€’ Working knowledge of employment and human resources law in one or more jurisdictions in the Americas is preferred.

β€’ Candidates must possess work authorization that allows them to be employed by ABB in the US.
