Senior Journalist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Identify, develop, and convey stories that resonate with the communities of Spruce Grove/Stony Plain and Alberta, impacting their everyday lives.

• Report and compose articles for print, web, and mobile readers, customizing content to fit each platform's requirements.

• Deliver breaking news and generate innovative reporting as an integral member of the news team.

• Write both short- and long-form articles for audiences in the Strathcona County region and beyond.

• Build relationships with sources and develop expertise to influence the news agenda and uncover stories.

• Operate independently while contributing to a collaborative regional newsroom environment.

• Explore and implement new methods to narrate stories and engage with news and business audiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of experience in a daily news organization within a deadline-driven role.

• Proficient in digital platforms, multimedia journalism, and social media engagement.

• Capable of working swiftly and autonomously, adhering to multiple deadlines, and making prompt decisions.

• Familiarity with print production processes as part of a team effort.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a newsroom team.

• Exceptional skills in news and business reporting and writing.

• Strong news judgment with a proven track record of precise and thorough reporting.

• Demonstrated ability to initiate stories and develop enterprise features.

• Knowledge of digital platforms and their effectiveness in delivering breaking news and connecting with audiences.

• Comfortable submitting stories for various platforms under tight deadlines.

• Understanding of legal standards and journalistic ethics.
