Senior Java Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Engage directly with intricate, pre-existing Java applications and enterprise-level codebases.

• Assess and reverse-engineer current systems to gain insights into architecture, dependencies, business logic, and technical limitations.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools for tasks such as code generation, analysis, refactoring, testing, and documentation.

• Implement structured AI development methodologies, including reverse engineering and Spec-Driven Development (SDD).

• Refactor and modernize current Java applications, including the removal or replacement of legacy dependencies and outdated components.

• Develop and enhance automated tests to facilitate safe modernization and refactoring processes.

• Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to convert requirements and existing system behaviors into maintainable technical solutions.

• Assist in establishing effective, repeatable AI-assisted development practices across engineering teams.

• Uphold high standards for code quality, maintainability, testing, and best practices in software engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive Java development experience, preferably in enterprise environments and complex legacy systems.

• Strong hands-on experience in Java application development, maintenance, refactoring, and modernization.

• A minimum of 3 months of practical experience using Copilot as the primary AI code-generation tool within a team project, OR at least 6 months of experience with similar AI coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, or equivalent.

• Practical experience with shared, structured AI development workflows, particularly in reverse engineering and/or Spec-Driven Development (SDD).

• Hands-on experience utilizing AI-assisted workflows for test generation.

• Practical experience in refactoring existing Java systems to eliminate or replace legacy dependencies.

• Strong aptitude for understanding and navigating unfamiliar and complex codebases.

• Solid foundation in software engineering principles, including clean code practices, automated testing, version control, and collaborative development methodologies.

• Excellent communication skills with the capacity to collaborate effectively with technical teams and stakeholders.

• Practical experience with Java 17 and Java 21.

• Experience with SQL (relational) databases.

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases.
