Senior IT Systems – Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Conduct research, assess, and propose technical solutions to address business challenges.

• Design, develop, deploy, and document technical solutions for production environments.

• Facilitate the transition of new systems into steady-state operations through the creation of documentation and training for operational IT personnel.

• Lead technical initiatives and sub-projects throughout the department.

• Act as a subject matter expert and internal consultant on best practices for infrastructure.

• Serve as the primary escalation point for intricate issues.

• Manage escalated support incidents and liaise with external vendors and consultants.

• Create root cause analysis reports.

• Assess and prioritize tasks, projects, and issues.

• Be available to work outside regular business hours, including evenings, nights, or weekends as necessary.

• Establish and maintain monitoring for critical systems.

• Assist in business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives, which include documented plans and annual DR testing.

• Collaborate with other teams and business stakeholders to establish recovery priorities and continuity strategies.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise.

• Over 7 years of relevant experience in IT operations, support, or infrastructure.

• Strong expertise in core back-end technologies.

• Practical experience with Microsoft Windows Server.

• Hands-on experience with blade server hardware, such as HPE Synergy chassis.

• Proficient in virtualization platforms, particularly VMware.

• Experienced with hyper-converged infrastructure.

• Knowledgeable in enterprise SAN and NAS storage systems, including Pure Storage and NetApp.

• Strong grasp of industry terminology.

• Capable of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Skilled in organizing and prioritizing multiple assignments with initiative and sound judgment.

• Able to work effectively under pressure and complete tasks accurately and professionally.

• Advanced understanding of enterprise and cloud backup software and strategies.

• Competent in safeguarding firm data and ensuring its recoverability.

• Ability to lift 25 lbs. above waist level when necessary.

• A valid U.S. driver's license is required for occasional travel between offices or data centers.

• Expert knowledge of health and status monitoring for mission-critical systems.

• Familiarity with AIOps monitoring tools is an advantage.

• Self-motivated with the capability to identify innovative and efficient solutions.

• Proficient in supporting BC/DR guidelines, maintaining documented plans, and participating in annual DR testing.

• Expert proficiency with Microsoft Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, DFS, Group Policy, and Windows Registry.

• Advanced skills in VMware vSphere/ESXi, including clustering features such as DRS/HA, and VM clones/templates.

• Ability to develop scripts using PowerShell or Python.

• Proficient in utilizing infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.

• Expert in SAN and NAS network and storage design and maintenance.

• Practical experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services.

• Capable of assisting with vulnerability remediation, system hardening, security audits, and assessments.

• Knowledgeable about security best practices and frameworks such as CIS benchmarks and NIST.

• Proficient in architecting, executing, and maintaining BC/DR plans with defined RPOs and RTOs.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and communicate effectively across the organization.

• Must maintain composure and analytical thinking in high-pressure situations.

• Relevant industry certifications are preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.

• Experience with AWS or GCP is considered a plus.

• Previous experience in a law firm or professional services environment is highly desirable.
