Senior Health & Safety Advisor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and execute comprehensive health and safety programs across the organization to identify risks, manage incidents, and prepare for emergencies.

• Create policies, standards, and tools that comply with ISO 45001 and Canadian regulations.

• Implement standardized safety solutions that can be scaled across various operations and industries.

• Analyze and interpret legislation from multiple jurisdictions, translating requirements into practical controls.

• Advise stakeholders on specific obligations within their jurisdiction while promoting a unified national safety strategy.

• Conduct hazard assessments and facilitate mitigation strategies using the hierarchy of controls.

• Assist in training and awareness initiatives, fostering shared accountability for maintaining safe work practices.

• Track performance through metrics, data analysis, and reporting to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in health and safety or a related field.

• At least 5-7 years of progressive experience in health and safety, including program development or system implementation.

• Extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation across various Canadian jurisdictions.

• Proven experience in developing policies, procedures, and safety programs from inception in diverse environments.

• Capability to simplify complex regulatory and technical requirements into clear, actionable guidance.

• Experience working in multi-industry and multi-site environments, including unionized contexts.

• Familiarity with integrating ISO 45001 and management system frameworks into program design and ongoing improvement.

• Proficiency in analyzing large datasets related to HR and safety using Excel and HRIS tools.

• Skill in evaluating enterprise-level risks, predicting emerging hazards, and aligning safety initiatives with the organization’s strategy and mission.

• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and ability to handle sensitive information and high-pressure situations.

• CRSP or CHSC designation is considered an asset.
