Senior Government & Community Relations Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Take charge of Hipcamp’s government affairs strategy throughout Australia.

• Recognize and prioritize regulatory risks and opportunities that impact Host growth and retention.

• Establish and nurture relationships with state and local decision-makers, as well as influential stakeholders.

• Navigate council planning systems and public processes, including planning proposals, development procedures, consultations, hearings, and working groups.

• Formulate strategies to prevent, mitigate, and resolve regulatory threats.

• Represent Hipcamp in public discussions and media regarding land use, tourism, outdoor recreation, agriculture, and regional economic development.

• Forge strategic partnerships with agritourism, farming, tourism, outdoor recreation, conservation, caravan and camping organizations, and public land managers.

• Develop connections with Hipcamp Hosts and community stakeholders, engaging them in government affairs initiatives when suitable.

• Utilize media, public affairs, community engagement, research, data, and advocacy tools to influence priorities.

• Incorporate the Australian government and political landscape into broader GCR strategic planning while independently managing Australian execution.

• Provide recommendations to senior leadership based on political dynamics, stakeholder relationships, regulatory risks, business impacts, and success likelihood.

• Travel frequently within Australia and possibly internationally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in government relations, public policy, politics, advocacy, or public affairs.

• A proven history of influencing outcomes at the state and/or local government levels in Australia.

• Comprehensive understanding of Australian local government planning processes, including council planning systems, planning schemes, elected member dynamics, community consultation, and decision-making.

• Demonstrated ability to sway decision-makers and navigate complex or politically sensitive environments.

• Strong political judgment and the capacity to understand stakeholder motivations and institutional dynamics.

• Exceptional skills in relationship-building.

• Experience in community organizing, coalition-building, and forming strategic partnerships across government, industry, community, and advocacy groups.

• Background in media, public affairs, and/or grassroots advocacy is highly valued.

• Possess strategic and analytical thinking abilities.

• Proficient in assessing regulatory risks and opportunities while using evidence to construct persuasive arguments.

• Highly self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.

• High standards of integrity and confidentiality.

• A genuine passion for supporting rural and regional communities, responsible land stewardship, and increasing access to outdoor activities.

• Comfortable working remotely across different time zones.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
