
Senior Global Commodity Manager – Chemicals, Reagents, Fuel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +26 more states.
• Develop and implement comprehensive commodity strategies for chemicals and reagents across the enterprise.
• Oversee the entire sourcing process, which includes market analysis, RFI/RFP/RFQ creation, supplier assessment, negotiation tactics, contract management, implementation, and benefit monitoring.
• Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with essential chemical and reagent suppliers.
• Conduct supplier business reviews, performance evaluations, escalation processes, and collaborative improvement initiatives.
• Ensure suppliers meet expectations regarding cost, safety, quality, service, delivery, technical support, innovation, and supply continuity.
• Collaborate with suppliers, Operations, and Logistics to enhance freight efficiency, delivery methods, inventory management, tank utilization, and supply dependability.
• Identify potential for supplier consolidation, product standardization, demand management, alternative products, and overall cost reduction.
• Reconcile enterprise commodity strategies with site-specific technical and operational needs.
• Work closely with facility leadership, regional procurement, Operations, Engineering, Environmental, Safety, Finance, Legal, and Logistics teams.
• Assist in qualifying suppliers and chemical products, which includes reviewing specifications, conducting technical evaluations, running plant trials, performing risk assessments, and obtaining stakeholder approvals.
• Keep abreast of chemical markets, feedstock prices, freight costs, production capabilities, and supply-chain vulnerabilities.
• Develop backup suppliers, alternative product options, and business-continuity strategies for critical chemicals.
• Analyze expenditures, pricing, consumption, supplier performance, and market information, providing insights to leadership.
• Achieve measurable savings, cost avoidance, risk mitigation, improvement in working capital, and enhancement of service delivery.
• Assist with other procurement priorities as dictated by business requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years' experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, procurement, supply chain, or commercial management.
• Experience in procurement or commodity management within the chemical sector, or a technical background in chemistry/chemical engineering paired with substantial procurement or strategic sourcing expertise.
• Proven experience in developing and executing category or commodity strategies.
• Documented success in managing strategic suppliers and enhancing supplier performance.
• Experience in leading competitive sourcing initiatives and negotiating complex supply contracts.
• Ability to comprehend chemical applications, specifications, cost drivers, logistics, storage and handling requirements, and supply risks.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, persuasion, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Capability to independently address supply, supplier performance, and commercial challenges in an industrial setting.
• Ability to collaborate across multiple facilities, regions, and functions within a matrix organization.
• Willingness to travel to operational sites and supplier locations as necessary.
• Up to 30% travel, potentially including international destinations.
• Preferred: direct experience in procurement or commodity management for industrial chemicals and reagents.
• Preferred: experience in sourcing water-treatment chemicals, industrial gases, carbon products, solidification materials, lubricants, fuels, or other relevant industrial products.
• Preferred: experience in qualifying chemical suppliers and products through specification assessments, technical evaluations, plant trials, and stakeholder approvals.
• Preferred: background in waste-to-energy, power generation, utilities, waste management, environmental services, chemical manufacturing, chemical distribution, or another heavy industrial field.
• Preferred: knowledge of emissions control, water and wastewater treatment, ash management, combustion, or other industrial chemical applications.
• Preferred: experience in managing national, regional, or global chemical supply contracts.
• Preferred: experience in conducting supplier business reviews and overseeing supplier performance programs.
• Professional certifications such as CPSM or CSCP are preferred.
