This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
• Take charge of the design, implementation, and fine-tuning of the third-person over-the-shoulder camera, encompassing exploration, aiming, combat, and traversal states.
• Develop responsive camera behaviors featuring smooth state transitions, distance adjustments, offset management, camera shake, and gameplay feedback.
• Address collision, occlusion, and framing challenges in confined spaces, intense combat scenarios, and vertical environments.
• Create and execute rail camera sequences, including gameplay moments, chases, flight sequences, and set pieces.
• Establish seamless transitions between player-controlled, rail, and scripted cameras.
• Collaborate closely with animation, combat, and engineering teams to ensure that the camera, character, and controls function as a cohesive system.
• Contribute insights on control responsiveness, aim assist, and overall player experience as part of the broader 3Cs framework.
• Conduct regular playtesting, collect feedback from players and team members, and translate it into actionable improvements.
• Manage camera-related bugs and enhancements through to the shipping phase, prioritizing fixes as production progresses.
• Coordinate with level design and cinematics teams to identify camera requirements early in the planning stages of a space or sequence.
• Over 5 years of experience in game design, with a significant focus on camera systems or 3Cs.
• Extensive experience in designing and fine-tuning third-person cameras, covering aiming, combat, and traversal states.
• Proven ability to develop rail or scripted camera sequences and integrate them seamlessly with player-controlled cameras.
• In-depth knowledge of camera tools, such as the camera manager, spring arm, curves, and Sequencer.
• A comprehensive understanding of the mathematics involved in camera functionality, including vectors, angles, and interpolation.
• Experience in resolving collision, occlusion, and framing issues within complex environments.
• A keen eye for framing and composition, balanced with an understanding of player control and responsiveness.
• Ability to work remotely and independently, ensuring effective communication across various disciplines and time zones.
• A background in technical design, cinematics, or camera programming is a plus.
• Experience with set piece cameras is desirable.
• A portfolio or reel showcasing camera work is preferred (not required due to NDA).
