This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with the CTO, founders, and executives to develop and expand the mortgage technology platform.
• Design, create, and sustain features across Rails API services, TypeScript/Node services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends.
• Manage integrations with LOS systems, mortgage insurance providers, document vendors, and e-signature vendors.
• Oversee data mapping, synchronization, reconciliation, retries, and idempotency.
• Design and enhance asynchronous, multi-step workflows using RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, Sidekiq, and saga-style orchestration.
• Ensure the correctness and security of the multi-tenant platform.
• Lead technical design via design documents and architecture decision records.
• Identify and mitigate technical debt while enhancing service boundaries, module design, testing, and developer experience.
• Conduct code reviews and set engineering standards.
• Participate in on-call duties, lead incident responses, and implement root-cause solutions.
• Utilize and enhance observability tools and CI/CD processes.
• Investigate escalations reported by lenders and external LOS synchronization issues in collaboration with Customer Support & Success.
• Work with Product Managers to clarify requirements and identify edge cases.
• Collaborate with UI/UX Designers to create polished and accessible interfaces.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, design feedback, and AI-assisted workflows.
• Direct AI-assisted engineering utilizing Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex.
• Develop and maintain shared AI tools, agent instruction files, reusable skills and prompts, MCP servers, and automated workflows.
• Establish AI-use guardrails to safeguard secrets and customer data.
• Over 7 years of experience in building and managing production web applications.
• Extensive knowledge of Ruby on Rails, including API-only services, ActiveRecord, PostgreSQL, background jobs, and RSpec.
• Proficient in delivering UI with React and TypeScript.
• Experience with GraphQL; Apollo is preferred.
• Background in developing distributed, event-driven systems.
• Understanding of retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency.
• Familiarity with third-party integrations, including REST, SOAP, webhooks, and partner APIs.
• Strong instincts for security and multi-tenant data isolation.
• Advanced daily usage of AI and agentic coding tools.
• Capacity to structure context for agents and verify their outputs.
• Ability to compose design documents and clarify production incidents to non-engineers.
• Willingness to engage in on-call duties, incident response, observability, and conduct blameless postmortems.
• Bonus: Experience in mortgage technology or integration-heavy regulated domains.
• Bonus: Familiarity with LOS platforms such as Encompass, MortgageBot, or Byte, or MISMO standards.
• Bonus: Knowledge of Node.js/TypeScript services, Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker, AWS, CI/CD, and saga or workflow orchestration patterns.
