
Senior Full Stack Java Engineer – Workforce Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Design and execute workforce planning, forecasting, scheduling, and optimization capabilities utilizing Java, Spring Boot, and domain-driven design methodologies.
• Develop microservices for forecasting, staffing calculations, schedule creation, shift management, adherence, exceptions, and operational reporting.
• Create responsive workforce applications utilizing TypeScript and React for planners, supervisors, and employees.
• Design and consume REST APIs following an API-first methodology; uphold OpenAPI/Swagger contracts and versioning standards.
• Implement event-driven workflows for schedule modifications, agent states, queue metrics, forecasts, and adherence events.
• Integrate workforce management capabilities with customer experience platforms, Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) and routing systems, HR systems, payroll, identity services, and enterprise data platforms.
• Model workforce and operational data within PostgreSQL and other relational databases.
• Containerize services and contribute to cloud-native deployment patterns, configuration management, and consistency across environments.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins, automated testing, quality gates, and repeatable deployment processes.
• Troubleshoot production issues and enhance performance, batch processing, concurrency, scalability, and reliability.
• Engage in code reviews, technical design sessions, architecture discussions, sprint planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations Research, QA, DevOps, UX, and other stakeholders to translate needs into deliverable solutions.
• 8+ years of experience in full-stack software development, including management of production applications.
• Strong grasp of workforce management principles, such as forecasting, staffing, scheduling, adherence, intraday management, shrinkage, occupancy, and service level management.
• Experience with complex business rules engines, optimization logic, scheduling algorithms, or workforce planning workflows.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Java and Spring technologies, especially Spring Boot, REST services, security, and data persistence.
• Solid frontend development background with Angular or React, TypeScript, component-based design, state management, and contemporary testing practices.
• Familiarity with Node.js for integrations, lightweight services, build tooling, or supporting components.
• Experience integrating workforce management with ACD, routing, HR, payroll, CRM, or data warehouse platforms.
• Experience with AWS services and Amazon Connect is preferred.
• Proven experience in designing REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven services within distributed environments.
• Strong SQL competencies and experience in designing efficient data models in PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Experience in developing, deploying, or supporting cloud-based and containerized applications.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to create clear technical documentation and lead client-facing workshops.
• Experience in building configurable rule engines for labor policies, scheduling constraints, or workforce optimization scenarios is a plus.
• Exposure to workforce forecasting models, simulation techniques, optimization algorithms, or machine learning applications in workforce planning is advantageous.
• Experience with real-time operational data processing and event-driven architectures is a plus.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging and event-streaming technologies is an asset.
• Exposure to workforce analytics, optimization techniques, or operational research concepts is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Jenkins, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, observability tools, and secure software delivery practices is a plus.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted software development or AI-enabled solutions, including Claude or GitHub Copilot, is a bonus.
