This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +8 more states.
• Create and develop top-notch user experiences utilizing TypeScript, React, and Next.js for care team members and, when relevant, patients.
• Convert LLM-generated content, structured summaries, and clinical recommendations into user-friendly, reliable interface designs suitable for high-stakes clinical settings.
• Construct comprehensive features that incorporate server-side rendering, API integration, and client-side state management.
• Take ownership of features from the design handoff phase to the production deployment stage.
• Contribute to collective component libraries and create reusable UI design patterns.
• Ensure consistency in the design system throughout the product interface.
• Confirm that interfaces comply with WCAG accessibility standards and address the cognitive demands of clinical users as well as the varying digital literacy levels of patients.
• Implement the display of sensitive data, manage client-side logging, and handle sessions in line with HIPAA regulations.
• Engage in code reviews, architectural discussions, and design evaluations with engineers, product managers, and designers.
• Standardize software quality assurance processes.
• Supervise testing and debugging, and develop solutions.
• Investigate complaints and recommend changes or solutions to address complex software challenges.
• Shape departmental strategy and define technical approaches for project elements.
• Occasionally visit Humana offices for training or meetings.
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience with a robust frontend focus.
• Expert-level knowledge of TypeScript and React.
• Practical experience with Next.js, including App Router, SSR/SSG patterns, and server components.
• Capability to build and utilize REST or GraphQL APIs and independently deliver full-stack features.
• Strong appreciation for UX quality and meticulous attention to detail in interface implementation.
• Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and their real-world applications.
• Comprehension of sensitive data handling requirements in frontend scenarios.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and LLM coding frameworks (Claude Code, Pi Agent, Cursor, Codex, or similar).
• Candidates must reside near one of the specified IT locations: NYC, NY; Louisville, KY; Tampa, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Dallas/Frisco, TX; Boston, MA; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Chicago, IL; or Charlotte, NC.
• A minimum home internet speed of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload is required.
• Ability to work from a designated area free from ongoing interruptions to safeguard member PHI/HIPAA information.
• Preferred: Experience in developing clinical or healthcare-related applications.
• Preferred: Familiarity with AI/LLM output rendering methods.
• Preferred: Experience working with product designers in a design-system-driven workflow.
• Preferred: Background in Python or backend service development.
• Preferred: Experience in a greenfield or early-stage product engineering setting.
