Senior Frontend Engineer – AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design, create, test, and uphold high-quality web applications and frontend functionalities that enhance interactions with Intermedia's digital agents.

• Develop engaging conversational experiences for AI-driven agents via web channels.

• Create reusable web components and frontend functionalities that can be integrated into Intermedia products and customer-facing websites.

• Construct responsive, real-time, and asynchronous AI experiences, which include streaming responses, processing states, long-running operations, errors, and interruptions.

• Create user experiences that effectively convey agent actions, status, outcomes, limitations, and requests for further information.

• Facilitate rich conversational interactions that encompass structured content, forms, actions, links, files, and other interactive features.

• Develop transitions and handoffs between digital agents and human support while maintaining conversation context.

• Collaborate with AI/ML and backend engineers on APIs, events, data contracts, and interaction patterns.

• Work with Product and UX teams to convert customer requirements and AI capabilities into user-friendly product experiences.

• Establish frontend architecture and reusable patterns for digital agent interactions.

• Enhance applications to ensure optimal performance, responsiveness, scalability, and reliability.

• Adhere to standards for accessibility, inclusive design, authentication, authorization, privacy, and security.

• Integrate analytics, telemetry, monitoring, logging, and observability into digital agent experiences.

• Lead technical design discussions, conduct code reviews, and oversee complex frontend projects from inception to ongoing enhancement.

• Diagnose intricate production issues across frontend applications, APIs, real-time interactions, and AI-enabled experiences.

• Mentor and guide engineers.

• Keep abreast of advancements in frontend, conversational interfaces, AI agents, and human-AI interaction technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience in developing sophisticated frontend applications.

• Extensive proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript, along with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.

• Strong expertise in HTML, CSS, responsive design, browser technologies, and modern web application architecture.

• Proven experience in designing and constructing complex, interactive web applications utilized in production settings.

• Comprehensive understanding of frontend architecture, component design, state management, application performance, and maintainability.

• Experience in designing reusable frontend components, libraries, or application frameworks.

• Familiarity with integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs, asynchronous services, and distributed backend systems.

• Experience in creating real-time, asynchronous, or event-driven user experiences.

• Deep understanding of automated frontend testing and contemporary software engineering practices.

• Experience in designing applications for performance, scalability, reliability, and production support.

• Strong knowledge of web accessibility, responsive design, browser compatibility, and frontend security.

• Familiarity with CI/CD, source control, code reviews, observability, and modern software delivery practices.

• Demonstrated capability to independently lead intricate technical projects from design to production.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and aptitude to navigate unclear and evolving technical requirements.

• Experience in providing technical guidance, code reviews, or mentorship to fellow engineers.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across Product, UX, frontend, backend, AI/ML, and platform teams.

• Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies and frameworks.
