This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Create, sustain, and enhance fraud risk policies, strategies, rules, thresholds, decision frameworks, treatment pathways, and control documentation throughout onboarding and monitoring processes.
• Formulate suggestions for auto-approval criteria, manual review routing, payment holds, restrictions, limit adjustments, step-up verification, account oversight, and escalation thresholds.
• Record the rationale behind strategies, rule logic, data sources, anticipated impacts, monitoring plans, policy considerations, change history, and follow-up actions.
• Design and refine controls for various fraud types including payment fraud, onboarding risk, account takeover, business email compromise, counterparty fraud, tenant payment fraud, synthetic identity, first-party misuse, bust-out behavior, stolen payment instruments, refund or dispute abuse, and emerging fraud patterns.
• Oversee implemented strategies and suggest continual adjustments.
• Extract, query, and assess data using SQL to validate hypotheses, detect fraud patterns, analyze false positives and negatives, and evaluate loss exposure, operational impact, and customer friction.
• Utilize analytical and data science methodologies for feature exploration, cohort analysis, segmentation, model output assessment, threshold establishment, experimentation, champion/challenger comparisons, back-testing, and post-launch monitoring.
• Collaborate with Risk Data Science & Analytics to convert dashboards, models, features, risk scores, and insights into fraud decision-making strategies and operational controls.
• Work alongside Onboarding Risk Operations and Risk Monitoring Operations to integrate case outcomes, queue trends, investigator feedback, alert quality, and operational challenges into strategic enhancements.
• Assess Trust and Safety escalations to pinpoint control vulnerabilities, recurring fraud indicators, product or process weaknesses, and policy requirements.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Payment Operations, Compliance/AML, Legal, and Operational Excellence teams on tooling, workflows, data accessibility, rule implementation, and control monitoring.
• Present updates on fraud trends, strategy effectiveness, emerging risks, rule efficiency, false-positive repercussions, and suggested actions to fraud leadership and stakeholders.
• Communicate fraud insights and trends with fraud operations, monitoring, and escalation teams to guide policy, rule, threshold, and monitoring refinements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in fraud strategy, fraud analytics, payments risk, data science, financial crime, risk operations strategy, or a corresponding technical risk role.
• Proficiency in SQL is essential.
• Capability to independently write, troubleshoot, and clarify SQL queries using multi-table joins, aggregations, date windows, common table expressions, window functions, and segmentation logic.
• Experience in developing or enhancing fraud rules, thresholds, decision logic, treatment pathways, controls, or monitoring strategies based on independently sourced and analyzed data.
• Familiarity with data science, statistics, experimentation, model evaluation, Python/R, feature development, segmentation, or analytical methods applied in fraud or risk decision-making.
• Experience collaborating with fraud operations, risk analytics, data science, product, engineering, compliance, or payment operations stakeholders.
• Ability to connect fraud indicators across disparate tools, imperfect data, changing processes, and various product or payment workflows.
• Skill in translating data insights into fraud strategy recommendations, rule modifications, threshold changes, control enhancements, monitoring plans, and policy considerations.
• Solid understanding of fraud typologies such as synthetic identity, first-party misuse, counterparty fraud, business email compromise, onboarding fraud, stolen payment instruments, tenant payment fraud, account takeover, refund or dispute abuse, and bust-out behavior.
• Capability to assess fraud strategies through loss exposure, fraud capture, precision, false positives, customer friction, queue impact, and post-launch performance metrics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Strong sense of ownership, sound judgment, attention to detail, and capacity to balance fraud mitigation with customer experience, operational capabilities, compliance considerations, and business growth.
• Preferred experience in property management, rent payments, real estate technology, B2B payments, vendor payments, bill pay, embedded payments, merchant acquiring, fraud platforms, payment processor portals, device/identity signals, or decisioning platforms like Oscilar.
