This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Develop and implement food safety strategies, program standards, and priorities across sweetgreen.
• Collaborate with company leadership on significant initiatives from conception to measurable outcomes.
• Utilize risk assessments, audit findings, and regulatory data to prioritize efforts and investments.
• Act as the technical expert for the Food Safety team.
• Assist regional partners with intricate investigations and high-risk escalations.
• Take responsibility for food safety performance within the NYC Region.
• Work alongside operators to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Manage the NYC Region's third-party audit and pest control programs.
• Evaluate audit results, sanitation violations, customer complaints, temperature monitoring, and pest activity.
• Ensure the completion of corrective actions with prompt documentation.
• Create standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, crisis management protocols, and food safety reporting systems.
• Monitor food safety and quality performance, identifying risks early.
• Establish relationships with local health departments and guide operators through inspections and violations.
• Stay updated on changes in government regulations and industry best practices.
• Identify food safety and quality challenges and transform them into opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Over 10 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance, preferably within a multi-unit restaurant or quick service restaurant (QSR) environment.
• Proven history of developing and scaling food safety programs across an expanding footprint.
• Direct experience managing third-party audit programs and regulatory relationships.
• Experience serving as the technical escalation point for a distributed team or field organization.
• Bachelor of Science degree; preference for Food Science, Microbiology, Biological Science, or a related field.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders on decisions that have operational and financial implications.
• Strong knowledge of pathogens and microbes related to food production, microbiological testing, HACCP, SOPs, and applicable government and industry regulations, codes, and standards governing food safety and quality.
• Proficient in food safety management and reporting systems.
• Skilled in root cause analysis and continuous process improvement.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Self-motivated individual with high integrity who takes initiative and delivers results with minimal supervision.
