This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Conduct thorough investigations and analyses of the origins and causes of fire and explosion incidents at residential, commercial, and industrial locations in accordance with NFPA 921 and 1033.
• Gather evidence and document scenes consistent with NFPA 921 and 1033 standards.
• Capture photographs of incident scenes, record details as necessary or requested, preserve equipment and components, and securely store collected evidence until client instructions for disposition are received.
• Conduct interviews with property owners, occupants, tenants, witnesses, fire service personnel responding to and investigating incidents, as well as local officials.
• Survey neighborhoods to locate potential witnesses and gather their statements.
• Identify, document, and assess compliance with applicable codes regarding installed fire suppression and detection systems.
• Investigate failure modes and code requirements, and formulate recommendations for stakeholders.
• Create precise, clear, comprehensive, and concise reports and letters for clients that outline the causes and origins of damages.
• Implement established policies, procedures, and processes while exercising sound judgment in unusual or complex situations.
• Timely submission of reports and documents in alignment with client standards and expectations.
• Collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary teams on large-scale and complex projects.
• Support colleagues, gain insights from peers and supervisors, and foster relationships with existing clients and consultants.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a fire investigator.
• IAAI CFI certification is required or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hiring.
• NAFI-CFEI certification is necessary.
• Must be bondable and eligible for licensing as a private investigator where applicable.
• Must fulfill written testing requirements for private investigator licensing in relevant jurisdictions.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are essential.
• Capability to work in catastrophic environments for extended durations.
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle within a work context.
• Experience in commercial and industrial facilities is preferred.
• Familiarity with working alongside law firms and insurance companies is advantageous.
• A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
