Senior Field Applications Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Provide support and training to external clients on core technologies.

• Facilitate training and onboarding for commercial team members to ensure effective scientific support.

• Conduct light equipment inspections within a laboratory environment.

• Showcase technology and capabilities during large scientific meetings and conferences.

• Deliver technology presentations aimed at potential clients.

• Offer technical knowledge and problem-solving support to commercial teams and customers.

• Guide customers on study design, product selection and positioning, as well as competitor differentiation.

• Implement innovative solutions to overcome technical and strategic challenges.

• Maintain thorough knowledge of Illumina’s product portfolio and effectively communicate its value proposition to various customer segments.

• Evaluate equipment and laboratory technical capabilities to identify technology transfer opportunities.

• Troubleshoot protocols within client laboratories.

• Educate sales team members on effective messaging.

• Record technical inquiries in Salesforce.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires at least 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field; advanced degree is preferred.

• 2-5 years of experience in customer support.

• Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience, including technical troubleshooting.

• Proficiency in MS Office.

• Preferred experience in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.

• Experience in training others is preferred.

• Familiarity with CRM systems is preferred.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with tight deadlines.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships.

• Proven understanding and technical mastery of the needs of scientific customers and core laboratories, including successful technology applications and study designs.

• Desired experience in molecular biology or biochemistry, particularly with nucleic acid or protein research techniques.

• Results-driven with a commitment to finding solutions to challenges.

• Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently.

• Ability to adapt to change and effectively manage various assignments.

• Excellent organizational and planning skills, with a strong focus on detail and accuracy.

• High learning agility with the capacity to learn, comprehend, and communicate complex technical/medical terminology while maintaining necessary technical expertise, including knowledge of competitive products.

• Exceptional presentation skills.
