This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Lead, develop, and establish the technical direction for the Offline Perception team, which includes hiring, mentoring, performance management, and fostering career growth.
• Take ownership of the roadmap for offline perception model development and evaluation, encompassing curated datasets, training, benchmarking, and delivery.
• Review and provide guidance on architectural decisions related to auto-labeling integration, offline perception training and evaluation, as well as the design of large-scale data pipelines.
• Represent the team to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders across perception, simulation, and systems.
• Collaborate with product and peer engineering leaders to prioritize the roadmap and address cross-team dependencies.
• Propel process and quality enhancements throughout the offline perception lifecycle.
• Oversee team health and staffing requirements across ML/perception engineering and data pipeline/AI infrastructure.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Over 8 years of experience in software or ML engineering.
• More than 2 years of experience managing engineers.
• Hands-on experience with auto-labeling pipelines for self-driving technology development.
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale production perception datasets, including 2D object detection, 3D object detection, semantic segmentation, and dense depth estimation.
• Practical knowledge of perception models and modalities, including their accuracy, scale, latency, annotation costs, and generalization trade-offs.
• Experience with AI infrastructure and data pipelines, including distributed computing and data platforms such as Databricks, Ray, and Spark.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS.
• Documented experience in leading and scaling technical teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
• Experience in establishing technical strategies and roadmaps for ML or data engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate team strategy to leadership and peer engineering teams.
• Bonus: Experience in leading ML or data engineering teams within the autonomous vehicles or robotics domains.
• Bonus: Knowledge of VLMs, auto-labeling pipelines, perception model evaluation methodologies, managing teams or multiple teams, and Pegasus layers.
