This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of engineering results across various domains, including field operations tooling, exam-room technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems.
• Oversee senior Engineering Leads and individual contributor engineers, focusing on hiring, performance assessment, and career development.
• Assume the technical-direction role of the Engineering Lead as necessary.
• Conduct code reviews, actively contribute to coding efforts, and promote technical best practices.
• Advocate for AI-assisted and agentic engineering methodologies across teams and products.
• Manage priorities and interdependencies across three or more concurrent product areas.
• Engage in cross-organization architecture discussions, including ARB/RFCs.
• Support the growth of engineers and Engineering Leads in their professional journeys.
• Collaborate with Product and Design leads to ensure effective execution.
• Oversee a blended team of full-time employees and contractors, both onshore and offshore.
• Communicate organizational, staffing, and resource needs to engineering leadership.
• Travel 2–4 times annually.
• A minimum of 10 years in software engineering, with at least 2 years in leadership roles overseeing engineers or engineering teams.
• Recent direct technical involvement within the last 1–2 years.
• Proficient in native Android development using Kotlin and contemporary Android development methodologies.
• Experience with AOSP, customized Android ROMs, rooted or kiosk-mode Android devices, APK distribution, or Android OS upgrade programs.
• Background in Android device-platform development beyond conventional consumer mobile applications.
• Knowledge of Java alongside Kotlin.
• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React-based front-end development.
• Proven experience in developing software for connected, managed, or remotely deployed devices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineers across multiple concurrent products, workstreams, or technical areas.
• Experience in managing and nurturing engineers, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career progression.
• Understanding of constraints associated with deployed devices, such as limited resources, intermittent connectivity, remote updates, and various hardware or OS generations.
• Experience in supporting remotely deployed device fleets, which includes staged releases, fleet health monitoring, remote troubleshooting, and update or rollback strategies.
• Familiarity with backend technologies for device fleets, including Kotlin/JVM services, Node.js, serverless architectures, or similar microservice environments.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar resources.
• Working knowledge of cloud-based services and APIs that support connected-device applications.
• Experience managing blended teams consisting of full-time employees and contractors.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
• Candidates will be required to complete a coding assessment during the interview process.
